For all I say I hate the sun, it really does seem to make me more positive. Presuming, of course, I can hide in the shade since I burn quite dreadfully.

I woke up Wednesday feeling quite appalling. I ached. And it hurt. And Mum was on the phone, talking about braising steak. There may have been a conversation; in all honesty, I can't actually remember.

Anyway, Dad decreed that we were all off to the Lake District and we were leaving at 12.30. He even had directions. This gave me a little hope; a combination of me navigating and Dad driving is a bad one at any time. I did ponder the idea of taking perhaps a change of clothes, or perhaps food of some description, but both Megan and Dad told me that I was being too organised and we didn't need either. Well, fine, I thought. They had done this activity thing beforehand so presumably knew what they were talking about.

We were doing something imaginatively named "Go Ape" in which you, basically, climb trees. And between trees. Childhood memories galore - for years Dad would take me to Ruff Wood, put me in front of a tree and tell me to get to the highest branch I could - so it sounded, well, fun.

Getting there was the first adventure. We got quite spectacularly lost, down little roads in Cumbria. I think they still thought we were being invaded by Hitler, because I'll be damned if there's any signposts. How hard is it to find Grizedale Forest? Very hard.

But we found it, thank goodness, and trundled off to be kitted up. And up we went! We were pretty much left to our own devices once we were given safety instructions, which involved various harnesses and karibeanas (spl?) and whatnot. You had to climb up the tree avec la rope ladder and then there were obstacles to overcome, and you got down via a zip line. All good.

It was surpirisngly hard, although the worst part was when the trees would shake in the wind, prompting me to cling onto the tree and pray frantically. It was really, really high up! But it was fun, though, especially the zip line, which I normally crashed to the ground in and slid through a pile of mud doing so.

Oh, they mocked me for suggesting bringing a change of clothes...

We started at about 3.30. We didn't finish until 6.30. That was when we left.

Oh, they mocked me for suggesting food...

We ended up having tea (braising steak for them at least; what d'you know?) at about nine. Sigh. Me and Mum then watched Big Brother, channel-hopped for a while... and Dracula 2001 was on! Christ, but that's a dreadful film. It really is appalling. But it has Dracula and we all know the way my mind works at the moment.

I can't believe Stuart has been kicked out of BB, though. El gasp! He's less popular than Jason! Something weird is going on.

I am going to go and write self-indulgent fic now.

Squee! We've permeated the fandom. This is awesome. :-)

You say awesome. You haven't seen the fic I'm writing! I always despise stuff I've written, takes me a year or so to become quite fond of it...

... and I'm still on slef-indulgent Dracula kicks. Fingers crossed this will enable me to write better LOTR fic...

ALL fanfiction is self-indulgent. Embrace it! Ell and I have!

*embraces*

After years of research, I have found it is possible to be self-indulgent whilst writing good and vaguely canonical fic.

Hurrah!

If my MAs you mean Mithril Awards, don't worry. I'm not even good enough to warrant a nomination...

... and do NOT get my started on Teh Evil that is Hennuth Annun!

Wait. Are you saying you used the word "self-indulgent" all on your own?

Get thou to [livejournal.com profile] ellbee804's journal ASAP. "Mithril Awards call Eternally '...self-indulgent crap..." "I'd recommend it to my friends..." !!

I did use self-indulgent all on my own, actually! Hadn't seen those comments or anything.

*pats*

Self-indulgence is good. There's no point in writing, otherwise; it's not like any of us get paid for this!

Apparently, Jason is second favourite to win. ?!

And I am possibly THE only person on the planet who didn't even KNOW about the MA kerfluffle. *facepalm*

I keep on getting distracted by, like, Dracula and stuff. I used to be a scary lurker but I completely lost track of what on earth was going on, and I have now come to the conclusion that the LOTR fandom cannot agree with itself which is just... stupid, frankly.

Besides, lurking on them is amusing, seeing how very worked up people get!

My gosh. When did I turn into a Fandom Veteran? *panics*
