Today has been a Good Day, really. Just lots and lots of little things, but it's nice.

After my post at college this morning, I found some stuff on satire (conclusion: ask father. He was a trendy leftwinger so he should have watched some of this stuff in the 70s and 80s) and nanced off once more. English was actually not too bad for a while. It's nice knowing that I'm not resitting and that I'm getting some time off on Monday afternoons now. Admittingly, exam time is not going to be easy - some bastard has set my media and my history paper at the same time - but it is less things to panic and work at.

So, I had a fairly leisurely lunch. Had mushroom soup and everything. I also had the afternoon off, in which I worked on my history essay plan. Timed essay tomorrow - so many levels of not fun, despite the obvious fun of having Genuine!Historical slash. Titus Oates/Isreal Tonge. Yes, they were real people, but they were also morally rephrensible. Oates was expelled from quite a few places "for having an unbecoming interest in young boys" ewewew and for being a bit thick at Latin. Tonge was just nuts. But yes, they were a real and genuine historical slash. This is like James I all over again. However, the essay is a little bit dull and we can't even write about the interesting stuff. Bah.

Yet I finished it much earlier than the hour I had given myself to do it. So I read a little more in the history textbook I was using and there was a reference to Mary of Modena and a "definitive biography." Hmm, I thought. I made a brave attempt to try and use the library computer search thing, but it went crazy on me. A librarian approached me.

"Are you looking for anything in particular?"

"Yeah, a biography of Mary of Modena by Carola Oman."

"Hmmm. I'll have a look at the main computer." Off we went to look at the computer. "What's the title?"

"The book doesn't mention that."

"Ah. Well, I'll try keywords." She tried the keywords. "I don't think it's in the library. I'll try the North-West library system."

"Oh, no, that's no necessary, it's just out of curiousity..."

"I'll look anyway." She does so. "Well, it's not there. I'll try the British library." She does that. "No, I can't find it..."

"Well, not to worry..."

"I'll check the list of all books currently in print." So she checks. "It's not there either. Hmm. I'll try Amazon." She does so as I try and stop her, feeling guilty for wanting to read about Mary of Modena at all. "Ah, I've found it! It went out of print in 1962."

"?!"

"Still, they have a second hand copy for £3.98. I'll order it for you and swipe you with a message when it's in!"

"Erm... okay?"

Gosh. £3.98 spent on me by the library system just because I fancied reading a book. And there was me thinking that the librarians hated the mere existence of students.

So, in a bouncy mood off I went to the bus. Came home, started homework, was alarmed by the rate the roof is leaking. And then... it started to snow! WHEEE! Snow is so much fun, even if it won't stick. I do feel ridicuously Christmassy now, and I've even managed to secure a date to go Christmas shopping with Jess. Success! I also feel like a very cosmopolitan Christmnas type person - I'll be sending cards to the U.S.A, Bolivia, Brazil, Holland and, y'know, Burnley. Don't forget to add your address!

And then, just to add the icing to the proverbial cake, I had discovered a stash of satsumas. We all know how badly it went on Christmas Eve. I'm determined that I won't eat five in an hour. *looks longingly at bowl*

So, yes. Today has been a good day.

Satire. Means I can watch Have I Got News For You and Dead Ringers and claim it's homework.

Horrible Histories is so what I base, like, all of my research on. *grins* Yeah, Oates and Tonge made it all up but were believed due to a number of vital yet dull reasons. Which I won't go into. Since, y'know, dull.
