Results Day
Mar. 10th, 2005 01:55 pmI'm sure you're just all gagging to see how I did on the January modules. Heaven knows I was super excited about finding out these results. *sarcastic Colleen*
Allow me to explain. Last night, I spent the full evening having a good old rant at Iona and Clare (in between very odd conversations involving the predictive text for Birdy, the Phantom of the Opera etc etc) about how much I had messed these up because god I was an IDIOT and the only one I'd done okay on was media, etc, etc. Much wailing, moaning and gnashing of teeth. Honestly, I scare myself at times because... duh.
For those who want to the skip the rambly ramblings, here it is a nutshell:
Politics: 90/90, 118/120 (only need six marks on the next paper to get an A)
History: 86/90
Media: 47/90 (Read on)
English: 81/90
So, first stop of the day was to Elaine, who promised to giv up results at nine am. I went with Jess and both of us sat and shivered and decided that if it all went wrong, we had time to nip down to the Co-Op and thoroughly break my Lent challenge so that we'd be very happy when we got the rest of our results. So, I went in to see Elaine first.
ELAINE: Lessee... I can only give you Gov 4, we don't have Gov 8...
COLLEEN: Okay. Please give me my result.
(I prefer to get results early.)
ELAINE: Okay... Right, full marks.
COLLEEN: OMGWTFBBQ???!!!!!1!!!>????!!!!121!!?1
ELAINE: Yes, 90. Stop looking happy, you're not supposed to know that yet!
Went outside and then I bopped and tried to do so subtely. HOLY MOTHER OF GOD. Fairly obviously, that's an A on that mark then, with FULL MARKS. That's right. FULL MARKS. *beams*
The morning then passed extremely slowly, with all us sitting in A15 and wincing and waiting. I have discovered that tea can almost make up for food.
At 10.15, over we wandered to the Sports Hall, where the queue trailed out into the car park from the upper hall of the sports hall. Bloody hell it was cold out there. I twitched. I waited. Got up the stairs, went into the queue for A-C names and then wandered out looking dazed with my exam results.
Exam results are a tricky business, and these were from e-AQA and as such weren't on paper and stuff - instead, we just got the raw mark and no indication of the grade and stuff. Well, that's not true - media came with a grade.
Allow me, briefly, to refresh you all as to the content of the media paper. Critical Research. You know the question in advance. You can plan the essay. You take in 4 pages of notes.
Can any of you lovely, lovely people explain to me how I got 47/90, please? Half marks? A D?
Bah, I say.
So, I scan the rest of my marks. Politics is amazingly amazing, actually, and I nearly fell over with shock. We already know about the 90/90, but for the synoptic paper? 118/120. Most definitely an A there! More importantly and fantastically, though, I added up my scores for all 5 modules, and I need six marks on the next paper to get an A at A-Level overall. That's SIX MARKS. I basically have to turn up and write my name on the paper. Much dancing took place.
The others are borderline indeciperhable. I can't remember how much the papers were out of when I sat them. So, I have this big long list of numbers. I have done really well in both history and English if the paper was out of 90. I have done okay if they're out of 100. I have fucked up if they're out of 120.
So, I wandered around and find my history teacher. Well, I find a confused looking history class, with Amy standing outside. She informs that 76 is the mark for an A. I have 86, and as such dance with relief. Only partial relief - I won't feel happy until I get my results properly - but that's a very good sign. I also did the adding up thing again. Less good than politics, sort of. I need 137 to get an overall mark of 480 or more. That's out of about 210, so I need... *thinks* 65%, barest minimum. I think I can do that.
The last result in the English Module Of Doom. Like most things English-related, I hate this module. I cannot describe the burning and vicious passion I feel for this module. I resented each and every moment spent reading up on it. My mark? 81. I looked at it, and thought "Hmmmm." I had done very, very well if this paper was out of 90. I had a nagging suspicion it was out of 120, however, so I quietly wibbled about it. I couldn't go and find English staff, because, y'know, I got a lift home after results because I really didn't fancy a day of this at college. As such, I was skiving girl and have told Sue to tell Fran that I'm ill, etcetc.
Continued to wibble, until Liz, who was in a media lesson, phoned me and told me the grade boundary. Weirdly enough, desite politics etc etc, this is the result I am proud of the most.
I OWNEZ ENGLISH! 81/90! RARGH! I SLEW THAT PAPER AND I KICKED IT'S STUPID STUPID PANAMA CANAL AND BIBLICAL ASS!
Sorry. I am far too proud. I need 145 marks to get the A. I rocketh, etc.
As such, I am here, I am alive, I have 2p on my phone (not good, can't afford a top-up) and can't text Clare back (about to steal Dad's phone) and I've only failed media. Note the similarity between the words "media" and "music". Resit ahoy, methinks.
In conclusion: I ownez politics, I ownez English, I ownez history out of sheer shock but media ownez me. Thank you for reading this burble.
[ETA: I forgot general studies. I got a U in the spatial awareness section, but more amazing was the French section. 87/90. It seems randomly picking answers was the way to go in that paper.]
