A note to Americans on the British political system:

We do not vote for a leader of a party. We vote for a party. The leader can go AT ANY TIME and the party will retain power until the next election. The Labour party cannot be surmised by Tony Blair. Frankly enough, he's more of a Lib Dem.

But that's just me. The election results are both fascinating and scary for my area - That Bloody Labour woman won, but considering the choice was Scary And Bald Alf Dorran, I won't complain. The Conservatives got some seats back and Boris Johnson got his seat so I'm happy enough there.

You know what? I don't like the Tories and I'm not uber-keen on the Liberal Democrats. I do not believe in Tony Blair, but by god I believe in the Labour party when I'm under pressure to choose. I believe that they are half of the reason my college is so good, with extra funding that otherwise would have been cut. I believe they are why my family - nurses - can afford to live ina privately-owned house and keep my and my sister in what is, frankly, bloody better than what we were able to afford under the Tories. People voted Labour because you know what? Iraq is one issue and Tony Blair is one man. The Labour PARTY is still the best choice of the main three, and the Greens are the best choice on any other level. I'm reading every else's LJ with interest, before you say it and attack me. I'm also SO HAPPY to see that so many of you voted, because in many cases that is a good thing. Still a depressingly low turnout, but my flist are an intelligent bunch. *pets* I'm just glad I participated in what way I could in the Great System Of Democracy. Or something similiar in a country with consititutional monarchy. *ponders*

As such, this election worked as as well as it could for me. Labour was pushed enough to give Tony Blair a definite wobble - I seriously hope he goes in favour of a new leader, the party needs it. The Lib Dems came a refreshing second in a good few constituencies and pushed out that Conservatives, which is FANTASTIC. The BNP, however, did too well. They scare me deeply because they are SO the Nazi party in a cunning disguise. In fact, not even that cunning. But there we are. Also, George Galloway won his seat. BAH.

I watched My First Ever Election whilst straightening my hair (posh new straighteners have come in. Straight Haired Colleen Is Scary Love) and watching the results come up backwards in the mirror. I was knackered for the first bit, especially during Dead Ringers (I SAW DOCTOR WHO IN THE OPENING SEQUENCE! THERE'S GOING TO BE DOCTOR WHO JOKES IN THE NEW SERIES!) but then I got out of the other side of tiredness and waited to see my consituency come up. Good fun watching Peter Snow and the Swing-O-Meter, the weird little CGI party people and good old Boris. My constituency ended up declaring at about half three in the morning, so I staggered off to bed and went to sleep with the plan to be up at nine.

I woke up at 10.15. My lessons started at 10.40 and my lift was coming at 10.20. I ran around upstairs, washing my face and cleaning my teeth and desperately trying to be on time. In the end, the lift went to pick up Jess first and I still wasn't ready. As such, my straightened hair is decided mussed, I feel like death and horribly tired, amd BLAAAAAAH.

I am getting a lift home tonight and then I have a driving lesson. Then it is Andrew's 18th thing, which will probably result in my dying in a puddle of exhaustion. *yawns*

I went to bed at about quarter past three, happy with the way things were going. But I had to leave the house at 8am and had a full day of lessons! *Knackered*

Lmao, I saw Doctor Who in Dead Ringers too and squeed.

And hahaha, Peter Snow in the virtual studio always makes me laugh, because none of it's actually there and he's just waving his arms around at nothing. It must look so crazy.

John Culshaw and Doctor Who makes me a happy fangirl. (John Culshaw went to my high school and on the odd occasion used to do impressions of my headteacher on national telly. He is My Hero for that alone)

of course the last time you were actually off, fran was terribly worried - she said something along the lines of "oh my god, it's the second day colleen's had off ever" in such a serious tone of voice...

today however, just being late, you were merely declared as the reincarnation of queen elizabeth the first. squee!

xx
