Aug. 11th, 2005 05:18 pmWell. Like everyone else, I rather enjoyed Lost because it was scary and creepy and rather addictive. I can see it being a new fixture of my evenings.
Today started off rather depressingly and frankly awfully. I ended up crying on the way to work in a depressed haze of "I have no money! I have no friends! I am a bad driver! I am cleaning toilets on my birthday! That van driver's going really slowly!" What made it worse was waking up to a card from my grandmother with no message and a fiver that fell out. Not even a mention of what age, which shows she's forgotten. Don't go claiming old age or anything, she's not even retirement age yet. She just forgot. Argh.
Fortunately, that all died off during work when I shamelessy only half did every task and then suanterd out two whole minutes early. Good-o. I rock. And then I went to Iona's, and that was much better. She made me a sandwiche with mayonnaise on it, and then we watched Doctor Who: The Movie. Given it originally broadcasted in 1996, I'm not going to spoiler-cut. I was expecting to hate it, and I suppose had I been a fan and subjected to it, I probably would, but instead I clung onto Iona and howled with laughter. It's absolutely wonderful. I love Eight. I love Paul McGann. They're both fab, completely barmy and made lots of Four references. I felt much, much better after that, even when I hit the fucking gate AGAIN. NO MORE I SAY. I am bloody well walking to Iona's next time. It is beyond a JOKE. However, she also gave me an audio Doctor Who thing involved Arabella Weir playing the Doctor, and David Tennant playing "Timelord 2". I am intrigued.
Anyway. I put petrol in the car on the way back and giggled as The Wannadies came on the radio (long story) and when I got to the house, I seriously contemplated just driving away again. There are balloons on my house. My mother is determined to celebrate this one properly because it is my last birthday at home. I don't want to be the one that tells her I'll still be living at home next summer, at least.
Presents this time, as I could bear opening them rather than just muttering that it was too early and driving away. A Kasabian CD from
lilka; £50 from my grandfather; a ballon from the dog(!). And, most importantly of all:
EEEEEEHEEEEE I OWN A LAPTOP BABY.
I haven't done anything to it yet other than look at it in a manner akin to awed fear. I must poke it further to make it work and put stuff on it, and it won't take Boradband so I'll have toslum it go downmarket and get a bog-standard modem (I'll download the interesting stuff on this computer and transfer it) but it's MINE ALL MINE. Dad has, at least, put Windows XP on it and named the system "TARDIS." I am amused and happy.
So, my day has improved thoroughly and I'm off out for a meal tonight with El Familio, which should be good as I'm not paying. Jess mentioned coming around later, too. Finally, thank you to everyone on my flist for their birthday wishes and pervy messages and pictures (you know who you are.)
... and off to poke the shiny. And not think about the scratches on my car.

Date: 2005-08-11 06:29 pm (UTC)Oh, and I've been hearing lots about this Lost thing. o.O It was on the Radio, in the paper, et cetera. Terry Wogan thinks it'd've been better with British people, as we'd be scouring the area for tea leaves and something out of which to make cricket bats. Kwehe.
