OOOOH WEEEEE OOOOOH!
Aug. 27th, 2005 02:30 pmI have had an utterly, utterly perfect twenty-four hours. I cannot fault it, and that is what's marvellous, despite having to be in work yesterday and EVERYTHING.
So, we'll ignore the boring work aspect of the day and fast forward to when I wandered out of the staffroom. I trundled out of work merrily and sped to
loneraven's house to pick up her and
amchau. And lo! for there was geekery, scarves, seagulls and the Doctor Who Exhibit.
This is what happened when the three mods of
new_who Went On A Day Trip.
Firstly, we had to get there. This was a challenge within itself, as it involved the Really Scary Motorway that is the M6 as well as putting lots of petrol in. So far, so hoopy. I even made it onto the M6 fairly painlessly after my initial blind panic of "LOOK AT THE CARS AND THE LORRIES OH GOD THEY'RE GOING REALLY QUICKLY." Once this has disappeared, we put on Once More With Feeling (BBC edit) and sang along like idiots while I checked my mirrors every seven seconds and generally was a responsible driver whilst trying not to choke on the coffee Revel that Iona had just fed me. Nipped onto the M55, still didn't die and ended up parked outside of the football ground, feeling smug and eating sandwiches.
So far, so hoopy. We had a brief panic, though, when the woman at the cafe had no idea where the Doctor Who exhibit was, or indeed, even if it was still on. Oh dear. As such, we decided to head towards the Tower, and I was conscious of feeling just a little City Of Death. For those who are now confused, Blackpool Tower is a cheap knock-off of the Eiffel Tower, but you can see it from high hills in my twon so I feel a little protective of it. This feeling was reinforced as we got nearer to the Tower itself, with the grey sea rushing against the sea defences and a blustery wind nearly knocking us all over.
"I can hear music," Iona said suddenly.
"... is that Four's theme?"
Oh yes. It was the Doctor Who music and we had, in fact, found the exhibit. OH YAY SQUEE. I think we may have said that at one point. It was, in fact, around now that a tram bearing the legend "STARR GATE" rolled past. There was pointing and squeaking and general fangirling. Why is it that I only ever go to Blackpool to be a nerd?Like there's another reason to go there.

In we walked, with the music pounding around us and a shop just full of memerobilia. We passed Bessie (who has an in date tax disc - this amused me) and far too much interesting looking stuff. Taking deep breaths, we went and paid for our entrance and proceeded to walk through the doors of the TARDIS to the exhibit.
We were immediately grabbed by the Old Skool console and amused oursevles by pressing buttons that made noises and marvelling at the Old Skool technology. Seriously, it was fab. We also got some silly photos as we stood in front of various old monsters. The photos here didn't really work, but I got this wonderful shot of some Cybermen parts:

Brrr. Creepy Cybermen bits!
We then went through another door and were politely reminded not to use cameras past this point, so we didn;t. We watched some really old Blue Peter with Jon Pertwee and more interestingly, contained a clip of Nicholas Courtney when he didn't play the Brigadier.
"It's the Brig! But not!"
We all made an agonised wail when they didn't show a regeneration, too.
We continued to wander around, making squee noises on a regular basis and geeking out over all the old monsters. Some of them are very cheesy, but some of them rock. Best bit was a corridor with the old Doctor's costumes and a video playing of all the regenerations in order. In conclusion, One To Two was a fantastic effect for the time; Two To Three once again shows my love of Two; Three To Four is BATSHIT CRAZY because who the fuck was that monk dude?; Four To Five is still upsetting but really, the Watcher is a clever way of getting over how different Baker and Davison look; Five To Six is sad and Six was never better; Six To Seven sucks. They didn't show anymore regenerations (it's an old exhibit) but it really was fab, especially as we peered at all of the costumes in a faint longing.
Like the children we are, we did the thing were you make youir voice sound like a Dalek.

That would be Iona sitting in the Dalek. Good fun.
There was ahll for the new stuff, with the Annedroid, a Slitheen, an Auton, Rose's jacket and Jabe's stuff.Am-Chau sorry, Rhiannon, needed dragging away from this. Bless her.
We then spent too much time in the shop. I ended up buying three books (one with Two, one with Five and one with Eight) and a Dalek poster for university. It's all educational, I swear. Lastly, we got a photo next to Bessie:

After a brief moment to get some rock (it's like a very very sweet sticky... um... stick of sweet stuff. I can't describe it. But it's delicious and traditional to seasides in Britain) we headed back to the car and I sped back with absolutely no problems. This was fab.
In conclusion, it was a bloody fantastic afternoon of squeeful goodness. I drove home after sorted out my evenings plan and proceeded to go to the pub and get wasted. I basically had a bottle of red wine ALL TO MYSELF and enjoyed the horror that is extended drinking time by staying out longer and dancing the Macarena in the beer garden with the Twins. (Who are Ranger related twins. But not that type of Ranger. Oh, god, fandom is taking over.) It was a night that was, y'know, meant to be just a night out but it turned out to be rather more than I expected and definitely what I needed. Possibly rolling through the front door at 4am. The pub wasn't open that long, but there was pizza and talking with various people and time flies when you're pissed.
I woke up this morning quite unhungover and didn't find myself regaled by the usual "AND WHAT TIME DID YOU ROLL IN LAST NIGHT" stuff from El Parento, which is also a good thing. However, I had to go out once more today to see Rhiannon and keep her company while Iona was at work, which ended up involving running toSouthport and a general series of misadventures. I liked having Am- ARGH RHIANNON RHIANNON RHIANNON I WILL REMEMEBER THE RIGHT NAME here this weekend. In fact, this weekend is shaping uo to be a good one, if Friday night is anything to go by. Also, I have Monday off. OH YES.
