Although I have a girl!Doctor icon waiting in the wings ("Oh. No bra.") I had to upload this because it is so... so... I don't know what the words are. I think it's the hand-holding bit. Yay! Hand porn!

But I like it a lot. Yay [livejournal.com profile] __kali__!

No, my LJ is full of DW as it is so it's all good.

In all seriousness, the best place to start as a n00b in new Doctor Who fandom is with the newest series. The episode list is thus:

Rose
The End Of The World
The Unquiet Dead
Aliens Of London
World War Three (Aliens and WW3 are a two-parter)
Dalek
The Long Game
Father's Day
The Empty Child
The Doctor Dances (Empty Child and Doctor Dances are a two-parter but they're the best in the series so far)
Boom Town
Bad Wolf
The Parting Of The Ways

That's the Brand Spanking New Series and they're just... oh, they're fab. Does help if watched in order, because there's a narrative flow set up very cleverly throughout them all.

Of course, this would pique your interest for the older stuff. A lot of the older episodes are worth a look, but this is a pretty good list of Essential Viewing to get the feel of the Old Skool canon: http://www.livejournal.com/community/new_who/99504.html Not only that, but there's soome good recommendations there in the links. MY personal favourite is City of Death - written by Douglas Adams himself, and the writing and my complete love for the companion of the time, Romana, who is in this icon makes up for the awful effects.

I'd also advise having a look at Doctor Who: The Movie after seeing soem of the old ones because it's nice to see the Eighth Doctor. He's a good Docotr, even if every other aspect of the filom is rubbish.

Please feel free to annoy me qith questions and stuff, becuase I love talking about Doctor Who - it's so my new thing and I love it. I throw out words and terms like TARDIS and Gallifrey and companiopns and regeneration and it's important to remember that, well, not everyone grew up with Doctor Who vaguely being imprinted on the national conscious...

Thanks for the tutorial. ;-) I'll have to hope for DVD though, since I'm still on dialup and can't download for shite. (Are Americans allowed to say shite?)

Great. Something ELSE to get into. :-)

They are indeed when they willingly get into Old Skool British Fandom.

And hell, I'm getting into Firefly so we can suffer together.

Isn't Hitchhikers Old Skool British Fandom enough? Especially if I name-drop the radio series? ;-)
