I Don't Like Rap Music.

I just don't. As a general rule, I find it repetitve and the current thing for bling and bitches and booyeah and god knows what else just irritates me. I find the entire culture reprehensive and the music does nothing for me. Now, the odd song? I quite like. I like 99 Problems by Jay-Z because it makes me think of being in Andrew's car and driving around stupidly. I like Naz's Bridging the Gap" because it's more like the really old blues, and I like the old blues.

But do you know who I really, really like, and dance around like an idiot to? Kanye West.

I mean... what the hell?

The thing is, though, he seems to actually, y'know, say something. Instead of saying "I have built myself up from the streets using violence and now I have more diamonds than can be found in Tiffanys!" he says "Look, diamonds are okay, but they're mostly the produce of the awful war-torn country that you supposedly think are your brothers."

And the songs are really catchy. And I shouldn't be grooving my computer chair. But I am.

What is happening to me at the moment?

Also, I had something to talk about in my last post, and I forgot. I ended up watching Reign of Fire, and all I could think was "Well, this would be really good if it wasn't so bad."

It could have been perfect, it really could. It has Christian Bale! And Alice Krige! And Gerard Butler! I mean, this film COULD NOT FAIL. It had DRAGONS. It had POST-APOCOLYPTIC BRITAIN.

And it sucked. I mean, seriously. It just didn't gel at all, and that was a real shame. It started off well, but like all bad British films, they brought the Americans in. Apologies to all US citizens on my flist, but it doesn't help a film to arbitarily introduce the Americans who save the day. The actors treid their best, to be fair, but... I wanted to see death, and destruction, and dragons going mad. There was a lovely shot of dragons flying out of a scorched and decayed London, and I wanted more of that. I wanted to see the end of everything in a Dawn Of The Dead type of way. I wanted the dragons to win. The beginning - the desperate survival, growing food quietly and hoping for the best - was all great. The actions pieces just didn't seem to work as well.

However, it nicely filled up a few hours in my night. So that's okay. And Gerard Butler was great, as always. So that helped.

Kanye West is one of the few rappers that I actually really really like. 'Diamonds' was a brilliant song, and 'Golddigger' makes me laugh.

And yay for 'Bridging the Gap'! I love that song, it makes me dance like a madwoman. Although I haven't a copy of it :( Woe!

I know exactly what you mean about Reign of Fire. I saw it an age ago, and when I realised it was on last night I just didn't want to watch it because I really thought it fell short of what it could have achieved, y'know?

I haven't got a copy of it either. Alas!

And I definitely get you about Reing of Fire. Dude, that film should have pushed very button I have - Gerard Butler! Fantasy! Desolate Britain! Dragons! Apocolypse! And yet, nothing. Such a shame.

I hated Reign of Fire on principle because they gave dragons a bad press. (I'm serious. I own my obsessions.) And yeah, I agree, mostly it was awful. But I gotta say - the bit with the old man acting out Star Wars to entertain the kids? Genius. Absolute genius.

hah. i know what you mean about reign of fire. i actually have a promotional double page photo or something, because it looks so cool, but i folded out the name. it had so much potential, and it kind of danced on the edge of being good...

i dislike most rap on principle, but on principle i would try to judge on a case-by-case basis. since i'm never really exposed to it, the principles seem to work well. i occasionally listen to eminem actually, how mainstream am i. rahh. with the trendy-ness and stuff. i don't know the artist and songs you mention. lo, for i am but a poorly educated, uncouth, ignorant slob with no interest in such culture.
