As you all know, I don't tend to get into this kind of thing because it is yah-esque and stupid. However. Last night, I got adopted. My mother is some woman Sarah knows through Social Anthropology and my faux-father is Euan. He is a second year, but by his own lights, "I'm 26. Mentally, I'm a seventh-year."

So, we looked at what we needed to get. I now have two bottles of wine and also my shaving foam. I also learnt part of the Gaudeamus, our song. To be precise, I learnt th English translation of one verse:

"Long live the maidens!
They are easy and beautiful!
Long live older women also!"

Good grief.

Sometimes, you know you look wonderful and beautiful and a fashion goddess. Today was not one of them. My bobble broke, so I wore my hair out under a stripey pastel hat nicked from Katie, Doc Martens, baggy jeans, black hoodie, black winter coat, blue hobo gloves and topped it all off with my bright red blanket gown. I looked quite appalling. HOWEVER. I was warm and that is was what counts, especially given that I tramped through St Andrews slowly, shouting slogans against BAE system with about 300 other students. The demonstration was for ethical investment and it was nice and peaceful, with silly costumes and a carnival atmosphere. As we all stood in the quad, frost crackling under our feet and slogans being chanted, the pricipal read the petition and agreed to it.

It's a warm glowly feeling. Go social action!

Speaking of being social, I am going to see Harry Potter tomorrow. And I just got offered another set of academic parents. Erk. How do I say "Sorry! Got adopted now!" politely?

Also, my cold is here with a vengeance. I can barely move with sinus and throat pain, which standing around in the cold for three hours didn't help. I'm going to curl up with a book and a cup of tea, I think. Need to be healthy for Raisin Weekend - mother's party on the Sunday afternoon, father's pub crawl in the evening, party all night and then a foam fight in the quad Monday morning. GOOD FUN.

Wuh? I'd been adopted before I even had my results. I didn't get any choice, just a random person commenting on my LJ that he was my father when he'd Googled for me.
