Well.

Made it to Edinburgh, in the end. We had to make an emergency stop on the way, as Katie was very, very hungover, went a green colour and the second I pulled into the pub car park opened the door and was spectacularly sick.

A lovely story, I think you'll all agree.

That unpleasentness out of the way, we actually drove into Edinburgh. For those that don't know, Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland (and yet, still smaller than Liverpool) and has lots and lots and lots of shops. As such - perfect for Christmas shopping. We went to MacDonalds for the sheer luxury of fast food, before hitting the shops in the reserved and sensible manner. I bought the very small things I needed to get for Christmas presents (basically - no one is getting one and if you do it's because it was on sale or if you're related to me or buy me food) and Derya did her Christmas ball shopping. Basically, the rest fo us have big gothic black dresses and Derya looks like a slightly blonde version of Dracula in her trouser suit and red combo. I have no idea where [livejournal.com profile] zeta_of_s will fit into this happy picture, but we shall sort that out at the time.

Came home via, um, the Scottish Borders. We got very, very, very lost as Katie took us onto the bypass. Except the South bypass, not the North one. We didn't realise where we were until we started seeing signs for Carlisle.

It was funny if you weren't the driver. *facepalms*

By dint of speeding and Derya shouting out instructions to me from the roadmap (thank god - she can drive, read maps, and has done the same journey I did to get to St Andrews, if you don't count the fact she started in South Germany and I started in Ormskirk) we made it back by nine, and by general consensus, we weren't cooking.

My Christmas present to myself was a Chinese meal. I think I scard my housemates. I like eating, and when the food is there, I will eat it. They watched, frankly terrified, as I managed to eat my merry way through about two and half portions as they all gave up and just watched me. Katie dared me to finish the rice, and I did, with the prawn crackers, chips, and the chichen and cashew that was left.

I suffered for it later as I lay on the sofa moeaning quietly and begging that no one touched my stomach because I might die. We then watched Flash Gordon, and you know that's always good for a laugh.

Today I have finished my Christmas shopping (read: flailed about in Clintons Cards, Tescos, Ottokars and Bonkers all the while doing "OMG WHY IS THE TOWN SO EXPENSIVE IF ONLY DUNDEE DID NOT SCARE ME SO DEEPLY") and also done the Christmas lunch shop. We are having Christmas on Saturday and we bought crackers. And turkey. The turkey is quite large. At some point in the next week, I have to get myself to a greengrocers, as I have to do the vegetables for this meal par excellance. At least we have enough wine and sherry knocking about the house to feed us all. I'm just glad it's not me doing the crap like bread sauce and stuffing. Do we even have enough space to make this? We have to feed (and fit into our lounge ARGH) seven people minimum and I suspect Selda will bring Garry and this is going to get messy.

In less exciting news, I am probably failing my degree as I have done very little work this weekend. BUT HOW IS THAT CHANGE.

FYI next time you want to go to Edinburgh shopping there is a couple of park and rides.

One is by the airport, the other is on the A71, and it is free parking +£2.30 all day on the buses!

A few points of note:
  • I suspect that, when surrounded by young ladies, [livejournal.com profile] zeta_of_s will look slightly smug...

  • I once had to finish off chinese food in a restaurant for a group of five of us, before going to see "Spider-Man 2". Well, maybe I didn't have to finish it, but it was there, looking all uneaten, and we were in Won Keis, and I didn't want to give the staff any actual reason to insult us.

  • Depending on how your course is structured, you might be able to fail large amounts of it and still pass. I failed a module on photosynthesis, and still passed my Botany degree. (Mind you, with the way they awarded points, I could have failed the entire second year and still come out of it with a First, had I bothered. And not had to work.)

we fitted 10 in for 'chrsitmas' lunch today, and cooked it all in a tiny oven with no grill, as well as serveing it all an hour late but not burnt. It's one of those memories you'll have forever and tell everyone when you're old and respected by all.
have a great time, it'll be a laugh :)

Now looks as though it's going to be thirteen.

Honestly? More concerned about the fact we have SIX CHAIRS. I'm thinking that the office chairs and the neighbours chairs are going to be used. A lot.
