House 27 Christmas, 2005
Dec. 14th, 2005 06:14 pmNow with photos, sleep deprivation and a 15 on my essay! Sorry about the lack of update - been a little busy, so this is everything in on. About 30 photos under the cut, complete with stories. GO ME.
In my last update, I mentioned how I cooked for twenty-five people. It started off the day beforehand, in the bathroom.
Those really are two turkeys defrosting. Unfortunately, Selda went batshit crazy, moved them, and cleaned for three hours, so we had an odd time making them defrost. However! We overcame. The next day, the turkey went in with very few mishaps, except only remembering to shove an onion up its ass after it had gone in the oven next door.
Oops. Still, that problem solved, I went and worked on my essay whilst Simon was very well-trained and peeled the vegetables. This difficult mission accomplished, I came downstairs and started to help cook and generally organise the troops.
spockette rolled around at one point, and came armed with stolen goods from her Christian kitchen (God's herbs!) and also a chair.
Long story.
It was about this point that we started to decorate our room. I never did put pictures up of our tacky tacky lounge, so here they are.
Tree
Window, with home made snowflakes!
Before long, people started to turn up. We gave them our nibbles and Lidl mulled wine whilst I ran around flailing in the kitchen.
Simon has just butted in to say that he supervised. Bless him, he did and all. He flailed with the best of us.
After lots and ("I knew I shouldn't have spoken" Yes, I will write down all of your contributions, dear) lots of panic and stress, though, we had the following result:

If that isn't a thing of beauty, I don't know what is. Clean lounge, tables pushed back, two turkeys, rpast potatoes, roast parsnips, mashed potatoes, German dumplings, chipolatas, peas, carrots, stuffing, cranberry sauce, bread sauce and some candles from the ever-lovely
spockette.
It's so good, it deserves two photos.
Sarah serving.
Coral.
Sarah, Derya, and two of the neighbours, Aoife and George.
All good things must come to an end.
Except they didn't. Firstly, we burnt some brandy and Tesco's Extra Value Christmas Pudding.
Flamey flamey!
Then it was time for the vodka jelly. Except we got Morrison's Extra Value vodka by the name of Morrinov. It deserves a picture all of its own.
Nastrovieh! Or however you say it.
No, honestly, there was vodka jelly under all of that.
It made Kim and Katie very drunk. Or maybe this was taken before. I have no idea.
So, the next morning I ran around flailing quite a lot and finished off most of my essay. Several hours later, though, I wahsed my hair and straightened it, did Katie's, and proceeded to flail some more. I never realised how difficult it is to get four girls ready to go out at the same time, although Simon was the one to make us late, ironically.
(Simon is now back with tea. He is the only person other than me to make it properly. Simon refrains from making a comment about my tea and my copious use of milk.)
Derya prepares. I offered for £20 to actually just go like this.
Me! In Katie's room.
Sarah and Derya looked amazing, it has to be said.
As did Katie.
Not as good as me and Simon. For those that haven't seen him before, this is
zeta_of_s, AKA He Who Turned Me and all around fantastic and rather wonderful human being. (He is blushing.) He also scrubs up rather well, don't you think? I refrained from posting the pictures of him in the Christmas hat because I am a Nice Person.
All of us around the table.
Before long, we danced like crazy people to the band, which was okay, and the disco, which was worse.
If anyone can icon this, I will love you forever.
We danced with lots of people throughout the night, and I slow-danced. I've never really done that before for various reasons mostly including being too pissed, so that was lovely. At 1pm, we hung up our dancing shoes and headed home.
Waking up at about 10 on a Monday morning to do my essay was the most awful thing EVER.
And just to sum up the last two days - gave in essay, felt proud, got a 15, did modern history test, probably failed but DO NOT CARE, went to see Narnia, thought it was quite good, and have very little money left. Off to see the Muppets tonight (and
caloola will be there, fab!) and ignore copious amounts of revision that I need to do my Spanish test tomorrow. Also, Christmas cards are a work in progress. If they turn up at January, do not be surprised.
So, that was my House 27 Christmas in a very quick post. Woot?
