So, Ethel is dead. We ate her. Not a lot of her, as, well, she was looking all accusing at us (she was responding to her name before we boiled her, I swear) and I don't actually like seafood.

So there we are. Ethel is dead and there is a big space in the fridge where she should be.

Speaking of stuff missing, I took Derya to the station at 10.00 this morning, crawled back into bed and two hours later drove to Edinburgh to drop Katie off. The journey was a long one, made longer by getting tremendously lost. I miss my housemates already, weirdly. We're like a sort of weird surrogate family to each other, half of the time. Particularly Katie, because we sort of bonded because we weren't the gay ones, oddly enough. Now two of them are gone, and we think that Selda has left too.

(Simon is puttering around behind me, trying to find some clothes that don't smell of Ethel. EVERYTHING SMELLS OF ETHEL.)

Anyway. Now I am back from Edinburgh after that horrible four hour journey. Katie gave me a tenner and her boots, though, and this is a good thing. I like these boots. I wore them last night when we went out to the Bop, although this is the second time I'd been out in two nights. DocSoc and RockSoc (busy busy!) in the space of one evening, which meant we turned up to DocSoc looking like cheap skanky whores, and turned up to RockSoc three hours later squeeing. Good fun. At least I actually dragged Simon to the Bop, though, and it was a most fabulous night. I wore my floaty top and felt thin, as well as the aforementioned Lovely Comfy Boots. Drank far too much alcohol, and even bought a drink for my modern history tutor.

("Shaun from your class bought me a drink!"

"Then I will! Because you gave me a 14 on an essay I spent three days on including writing the buggar! No offence."

"Eh. Double vodka and orange?"

A man of class, was my tutor this semester.)

They played Christmas music and I danced my cares and also Ethel away. Also, Katie's Sort Of Bloke (met him at RockSoc, nice guy from Warrington) was also there so that was also nice.

The house is too empty and I have to go home in three days. Really do not want to. At least someone else buys the food there.

I am hopelessly unprepared for Christmas. Sorry, kids, no cards this year. Mum's just gone mental down the phone at me because the cards I sent for my extended family (they're turning up on Sunday, note me ABSENCE FOR A DAMNED REASON) haven't turned up. Bah.

I think I am spending this evening curled up with Simon, watching Doctor Who and eating takeaway that I cannot afford.

*wears black in mourning for Ethel*

Home is ... odd. Decidedly odd. I'm really rather missing people and places, even those I didn't expect to. But there are good points, really. And it's only for a month. Revel in the free food! *hugs* Hope you have a good holiday anyway.
