hathycol: (so glad)
[personal profile] hathycol
I'm not coherant enough to talk, past a nagging "ARGH!" at having not yet seen TCI and also the fact that I have managed to become ill. English germs, I say! *shakes fist* Thanks for all the congratulations - I've had similar conversations with various grandparents and whatnot thus far, and been told this will continue until pretty much The Day, which is not for quite a while, and no, I haven't thought about bridesmaids yet ARGH past not wanting my sister involved but that is petty and a story for a different day.

So, a meme.

1. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?
-Went to university
-Smoked a cigarette
-Cooked a Christmas dinner
-Passed A-Levels
-Got a boyfriend sort of by accident (and the obvious stuff that goes with that)
-Became engaged to said boyfriend

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't know what I made, so presumably I didn't keep them. Next year, I am going to give up smoking when I get drunk. It's neither big nor clever.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nope.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Also no!

5. What countries did you visit?
I went to the USA with college in February. I visited Greece in the summer. Also, I moved to Scotland. Does that count?

6. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?
120 credits for passing my first year of university! That would be lovely.

7. What date from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
If I have to say one, then 24th December! Probably also 18th August, 2nd September, 15th September and 17th September, too.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Since 'saying yes' does not count, it's getting my A-Levels (four As and a B baby! I ROCK!) and getting into St Andrews. And also, when I got into St Andrews, somehow doing quite well and making friends with Real People.

Also learning how to cook.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Being a terrible human being in August. I can only apologise for what I was like, then. I have no idea what was wrong with me other than fucking stupidity, and it's not a way I ever intend to be again.

10.Did you suffer illness or injury?
Other than the bogstandard coughs, cold, and flu, it would have to be my Mutated Fresher's Flu. That sucked, man. Also, Arthur hurt like hell and still does.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Best thing I bought? Christ, no idea.

Does my rent count? That's the most damned useful.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Simon, for being Marvellous and also Understanding. The Winstanley Mafia because they are always cool. Also my housemates for not hating me. And Russell T Davis!

13. Whose behaviour made you depressed?
Weird housemate because I have no idea how to act there. Mum for occasionally turning into Crazy Crackwhore. Russell T Davis for The Long Game.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Rent. Food. Alcohol.

That really is it. I actually worked it out and nearly cried.

15. What events did you get really, really, really excited about?
Starting university and getting to travel across the country a zillion times. Also any kind of driving for the first month.

16. What song will always remind you of 2005?
Franz Ferdinand - Do You Want To?
KT Tunstall - Suddenly I See
The Kaiser Chiefs - Every Day I Love You Less And Less (it makes me happy!)
The Killers - Mr Brightside

Also bloody, bloody, Is This The Way To Amarillo?

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i.happier or sadder? Happier. Wonderfully so.
ii.thinner or fatter? I think I'm slightly thinner, although after a couple of weeks at home that may no longer be true.
iii.richer or poorer? Poorer in that I am in minus figures, but richer in that the bank, government, and about three credit cards companies want to give me money.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Working of both varieties. Spent more time with people in general.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Drinking and spending money.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Well, I spent it, with my family, and then his family. Apparently it's going to be like that for all time, now.

21. Who did you spend the most time on the phone with?
Simon. Which is obvious.

22. Did you fall in love in 2005?
Hell yeah.

23. How many one-night stands?
Absolutely none.

24. What was your favourite TV programme?
DOCTOR WHO.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
That Wanker From My History Lectures. To be fair, I hadn't experienced him until September.

26. What was the best book you read?
I have been so bad about reading books this year. It's almost depressing that nothing actually comes to mind.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery or rediscovery?
The Dresden Dolls.

28. What did you want and get?
My driving licence, a place in St Andrews, and shiny shiny.

29. What did you want and not get?
A working knowledge of Spanish. A pony.

30. What were your favourite films of this year?
Serenity, I think. I haven't seen many this year, it has to be said.

31. What did you do on your birthday?
I had a three-day bender. The first one was on my actual birthday, and I went on a pub crawl with my father. The next was Day's birthday party where everyone bought me a drink because it was also my birthday, so I had a very pleasent evening. The third was going on my first night out around Liverpool, but I hadn't really eaten all day so I also experienced throwing up from alcohol for the first time. Oh, what fun.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Not being so disappointed in myself so regularly.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005?
"Ironing? What's That?"

Classic student, I think. Big jeans, comfy t-shirts.

34. What kept you sane?
Friends (particularly my housemates), tea, my overdraft.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most/least?
I can't think of any off the top of my head, weirdly.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
General anger at the government's apathy towards students. Sound stupid, but considering that We Are The Future and all that junk, it would be nice if they didn't assume we could cope off a rubbish loan.

37. Whom did you miss?
Oh, duh.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
My housemate, Katie. She is absolutely fab, keeps me sane, makes me drink too much and dance too hard, does the Dance of Backstory with me, sings along in the car and also makes me cry with laughter.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005:
The world changes around you a lot. Cling on and go with it.

40. Sum up the year in a song lyric/quote

Suddenly I see, this is what I want to be...

Anyway. I may go and try to nick the TV off El Familio now. Curse leaving the TV at university!
