Jan. 10th, 2006 07:44 pmToday has been a very odd day.
I had the nastiest dreams last night. This always occurs when I am stressed or ill, so needless to say, I'm a wee bit stressed right now. It did mean I did some 4am revision because I couldn't bear the thought of sleeping again.
But sleep I did, because, well, I'm Colleen and sleeping is what I do. I slept through
spockette arriving, the postman, and someone else (no idea who or why) and woke up at noon. This is an improvement for me, but really. Noon. I need better sleeping habits and a brain that doesn't think it's funny to add to my stress levels, kthxbai.
Anyway.
All this aside, I actually did some work today, in between lazing around and staring at the ceiling with a growing despondancy. Until Sarah came and knocked on my door while shouting "EVERYONE COME AND SEE THIS NOW. NOOOOWWWWWWW."
I did what I was told.
It was a letter informing us that we had managers coming around to the house tomorrow "some time after 10.00am" to "inspect bedrooms and public spaces for refurbishment in summer 2006."
In our rooms.
I think not.
One of the reasons I like Gatty so much is because we get privacy in our rooms. This letter came through internal mail at 4.45pm, meaning that we have less than 24 hours notice of people being in my personal space. "The manager has a key, and you do not have to present unless you wish" says the letter. Bollocks to that crap. If they're here before noon, I shall be in bed. I am not changing my schedule for them.
I left a note pinned to my door for effect. I'm just not best pleased about this at all. May spend all day swanning around in nightie and go back to bed deliberately when they turn up. Also we had to hide all the fairy lights, lighters, matches and candles because they are a breach of regulations. Argle.
Then discovered that Selda had left a stash of DVDs in the living room for us all to watch. It's all of the X-Files up til season six, loads of Futurama and a hell of a lot of anime stuff. More importantly: Bram Stoker's Dracula. I don't understand her at times. She is really lovely when communicated with via th medium of facebook and polite notes and impossible to connect with otherwise. Very confusing.
Now I am tired, feeling generally quite down and really not wanting to revise at all. However, since just staring at the ceiling is generally a Bad Plan and results in more despondency and even less work (destructive cycle, y'see?) so I will make a cup of tea, put on some happy music and work my way through some religious history.
Yay.

Date: 2006-01-10 09:03 pm (UTC)You just reminded me - in my joy over the fact that I have thursdays off, and that thursday comes after wednesday, which is a good night to go out, I had forgotten one very important thing...
...Thursday morning is cleaning day!
Bollocks, there goes my lie in.

Date: 2006-01-10 09:25 pm (UTC)I dealt with the last lot of inspectors very easily, i wore a slightly long T-Shirt and tiny shorts that were not visable under the T-Shirt. When the guy arrived at my room he got his head in just in time to see me stand up, apparently not wearing much and VANISHED with a yelled out "ROOM LOOKS FINE!" over his shoulder :-D Just had to make it look fairly tidy and bob's your uncle. It was properly amusing!
They're legally supposed to give you either 36 hours or three days i think, one or the other. I nearly stayed in bed myself but was unsuccessful.
Mind you, if you're staying on at the house next year then it might be worth your while to cooperate if they're going to refurbish...

Date: 2006-01-10 10:08 pm (UTC)My room doesn't need redecorating! Whoever had it last year trashed it, so I have the newest furniture and carpets. I also wouldn't mind if we'd got more than a few hours notice. Bastards.

Date: 2006-01-10 10:06 pm (UTC)Doesn't <>appear to be a check on crazy things like health and safety, but we figure we should get rid of the stuff that gets you thrown out. It's just really irritating. I'm not taking my posters down. No fucking way.
I would go and bother Chris, but we actually checked the tenancy agreement, and a manager (which is one of these) can come around any time they like. They said "we will try to inform the inhabitents 24 hours in advance" but that is obviously a load of BOLLOCKS.
I am STAYING in BED.
