Jul. 24th, 2012 09:12 pmHad a truly lovely weekend. Friday was a monumental stress, with my Pill appointment involving waiting for an hour in the waiting room before querying why on earth I hadn't been seen yet. They had basically forgotten about me. Fortunately, I didn't have a parking ticket when I got back to the car, but it put me back for hours on my day, given that I hadn't parked for eaten and I didn't get back to the flat until 1.30pm.
When Richie got back from work, we headed out as quickly as we could in order to get to Edinburgh. We foolishly followed the SatNavs instructions, and Cynthia didn't disappoint, taking me along a road to Edinburgh that did get me to Katie's with minimum fuss but via an A-road that I keep on remembering as having ledges a bit like that Bolivian death road. Still, arrived early enough for some tasty Chinese and a night of old school Stargate SG-1 before having time for an early night.
The next day heralded waking up and having a reasonably lazy morning, not including the trip to Tesco where we howled a lot about being graduates as we bought fizzy pop, crisps and sweeties. Good times! We ended up watching a lot of Buffy as we slowly readied the house for the arrival of other people, doing our best with balloons and attempting to mak a banner. I failed miserably at this, but mine and Katie's attempt to make a cakestand from some china plates and Princess Anne wedding mugs was far more successful!
Eventually people started to arrive, with Lucy, Fiona, Louise, Tali and Andrew all arriving in reasonably quick succession. Buffy was quickly turned off as we realised that The Body was the next episode, and we cracked out the Doctor Who and Katie opened all of her presents. I possibly went a little overboard, but if you can resist a tiny fluffy bunny babygro and a baby bib reading 'Stormageddon, Dark Lord of All' then frankly you are a stronger person than me!
We spent a lot of the day with Doctor Who on in the background and gossiping away for hours and hours - it was a brilliant day. Some of us cracked into the wine, others enjoyed the highly sugary fizzy pop, and it was just a lovely day. I think that Katie enjoyed it, which is what counts; I wanted to make sure that she felt spoiled, and that everyone there just got to have a catch up and to celebrate Katie and her forthcoming tiny person. We learnt that Ansdrew missed out on meeting Bill Murray because someone set his beard on fire, and we flailed about all being Ye Olde Graduates. It was lovely.
On Sunday I had a lie-in and failed to see off everyone except for Tali, due to being lazy. After a drive back via a less terrifying road (mostly by accident) Richie and I stopped for lunch in Biggar which turned out to be a really lovely little pub, and got back late to Southport on Sunday.
Now I am enjoying a six day week, and last night I was fully sleep-deprived due to neighbours having an exciting row in the small hours of the morning, which made the kids wail, and general bad times. Oh well.
