I had a post, talking about fanvids and stuff, but it all seems a little bizarre to put it in a post with this, so I won't.

I am feeling very creeped out due a recent news story about someone being stabbed to death on a train, trying to defend a woman in an argument. It's very, very close to home; he was a first-year at St Andrews (from Melville Hall, so was probably in the process of returning home that day) and the person they've arrested for doing it comes from Skelmersdale.

That is very, very creepy. St Andrews is a small community, and I know enough people in Melville for one of them to have known him. And the fact that is was someone probably rsponsible for the stabbing from the tiny town up the road is even more creepy.

Horrible world, sometimes.

I still feel totally shocked by this...I don't know if you read my post yesterday, but he was one of my students last term - very intelligent, and a genuinely nice guy. He had such a great future ahead of him, and I just feel sick thinking about what happened. As you say, it really is a horrible world sometimes.

I can vouch for my town (Skelmersdale) being a horrible shit hole of a place where sadly incidents similar to this one happen quite a lot. However I can also say that if they couldn't get thier hands on knives there are always hammers, screwdrivers and broken bottles. It's the people that are the problem.

Oh my life, I'm still in Edinburgh/Kinghorn & have been kind of out of the loop with news ... this is just so awful, when you think of everybody making their way home over the last few days and then that poor boy ... doesn't even bear thinking about. Found him on facebook after I heard and it just seemed such a bloody waste, everybody wishing him a good summer only a few days ago. What kind of world is it where people can get stabbed for trying to be helpful?
