Jun. 13th, 2006 01:54 pmOh, thank god. The sunshine has finally broken and with it has gone the blistering heat. It's still pretty warm, but it rained last night (I don't think I've ever heard a better sound) and now it's a bit cloudy. I might get away with not wearing suncream today, BY GOD. Seriously, though, I suffer in the heat, so this is a lovely change. Although a bit of sunshine before I leave might be nice - there are vague plans to go punting.
I am being terribly Cambridge Wives here. I do apologise. This place is so lovely, though - it's very peaceful, and everyone is actually quite friendly. Unlike St Andrews, where I couldn't walk into a certain type of bar without being stared at, here people nod and smile at me despite having no idea who I am. I missed student noises, too - here, because it's opposite the chapel, all I can hear is occasional organ music and singing, as well as the various distressingly musical people in this staircase (ALTHOUGH PIANO AT NINE AM IS NOT COOL) and the people passing by. Plus, there's always the fun of still being TOTALLY ACADEMICALLY SUPERIOR HAHA so, um, yes.
(Saying all that, I still prefer St Andrews, but this is a nice break.)
Anyway. Talking of these tradition thingies which are so scary here, I am being taken to a formal dinner tonight. This involves academic gowns (I am entitled to wear mine, but funnily enough, I didn't bring my bright redGallifreyan robes gown with me) and formal wear and oh dear. Technically, I have formal wear with me, except it's my ballgown, which is a bit too formal. I hope I can get away with a black t-shirt (Tescos Extra Value, oh god) and my Not Baggy Jeans with the heels I bought with me, but eeek. Given I'm currently in hiding from the porters, this could be interesting as I DO NOT WANT TO BE SEEN.
Sorry. I had to wibble. I am, basically, still having a blast. It is lovely to not work to worry about. And now, I am off to meet
tau_sigma which should be fun, and then, well, formal is the evening. Oh dear. Still, though, three courses for a fiver? I won't complain.
*points* Lookit! Grey sky! It's cool enough to actually breathe a bit!

Date: 2006-06-18 12:34 pm (UTC)No, there's not. There is, however, an unofficial collective and bitter and angry men and women who sit around and throw peanuts at Smug Couples. Will that do?
