hathycol: (orion slave girls)

I am, possibly, going to stop blethering about Star Trek soon. No, honest. It's just a Phase. I go through Star Trek Phases on a pretty regular basis, depending on what's on recycle on SkyOne, but the Star Trek week on Sci-Fi (and, erm, just sitting and watching Trekkies for two hours) has sort of brought it to the extent that I am seeking for icons. But, you know, given that Star Trek produced the Orion slave girls, I'm not going to argue.

(I do, however, have a question for anyone who knows the answer. Yeoman Janice Whatsherface - in the original series, blonde woman with a pleated hairstyle, shorter skirt than Uhura, does nothing but scream and give doe eyes to Kirk, pain in the arse. You know her. Why isn't she in the films? I'm glad she's not, obviously, but why? Does the character die and I just missed that episode? OH PLEASE LET HER BE DEAD.)

I am going back to university in one week and one day. I CANNOT WAIT. I'm sort of ignoring all the bad aspects (lack of money, and, you know, the way in which in two weeks I can no longer see Simon on a daily basis, which is, um, very bad, and the way I've not seen enough of my friends, which is also very bad) and going for the "FREEDOM WHEEEEEEE!" aspects of it. I'm getting the first flutterings of being nervous, though - I had a dream last night about how I was in the smallest bedroom ever and how the person they moved in with us was just plain weird and it was all just very odd. Saying that, the night before I had a dream that Simon moved to New York and forgot to mention it, so my dreams are best not to be believed.

The dog is not well. He spent all of last night whining and crying everytime he had to move particularly far or roll over, and given he already has problems with his joints, we shipped him off to the vets this morning. He has sciatica, and is now banned from climbing onto chairs and going for long runs. Given these two things are all he ever seems to does, it's quite tragic, and it breaks my heart when I have to scold him off 'his' chair.

Anyway. The parents are having something involving bacon for food tonight, so I am off to make myself stuff. What do I want? Do I want to spend yet more money and pig out on a Chinese and then probably explode, or do I want to rifle through the freezer and probably end up with a variation on waffles? Oh, the decisions.

Finally, one last question: I have an urge to subject you all to some music. Would anyone actually download it if I put up a few songs that I think some of you might like?

Ah, Rand is in a couple of the films. She's in Motion Picture, Search for Spock, Voyage Home and on Sulu's ship in Undiscovered Country. You may not have noticed her cause she's not in it much and so much shinier in the movies. (She's also in that Voyager episode with Sulu, yes.)

She is so much better in the films, I agree. One of the novels explains it by saying she lied about her age to join Starfleet and was only 17 when she was on Enterprise. It doesn't really work with the on-screen canon, but I have adopted it as my explanation as to why she was a screaming wee girl NCO in the series and an really quite shiny officer in the films.

I did not know! But no wI think of it, I remember her face in Undiscovered Country. Because Sulu is AWESOME LIKE WHOA and I would rather serve under him than Kirk. ("Should I report this, sir?" "Are you kidding?")

Mostly, she just makes me really angry in the series. She's just so MEANINGLESS.

Janice Rand apparently left in the middle of the first season, but she *was* in the movies: transporter chief in The Motion Picture; one of the randoms in the canteen in The Search For Spock; Sulu's comms officer in The Undiscovered Country and I swear she was in The Voyage Home, but I can't for the life of me remember where.

She does! She dies, I think. In a big non-BBC gravel pit involving some scary black stuff. I think. Fairly sure. Also I think there was slashshing of her, but possibly that was fannish reference and not canon.

I had a dream that our landlord put in extra bathrooms. AND THEN HE DID. But not in the freakish way he did in my dreams which involved one of us sleeping in the bath for a year.

I would probably feel bad about the bad downloading and do it anyway. Go on. Corrupt me. *g*

That's Tasha Yar, I think - from The Next Generation? She slept with Data one time and left early on, if memeory serves, but then Worf gets some love, so that's okay.

I will corrupt away!

oh how very sad it is that i know this, in my defence dads obsessed with star trek full time not just in phases. i think that officer had a drink problem in real life, they were very supportive but she had difficulty fighting it so was not always available for filming.

random coincidence, dad was just mentioning her today, apparently they sacked her for being drunk during the series but then when she sobered herself up they brought her back for the film. cos william shatner felt sorry for her. everybody say awww.
