Finally! A time to nab the computer when Simon is not using it/I am asleep! (For those interested, he's currently zipping across Cambridge in an effort to hand in some work. A commendable idea.)

So, what have I been up to in the last few days? In my head, of course, you've all missed me DREADFULLY so I need to do this update before you all just die from missing me. Or something like that.

Well, Thursday was a bit of an odd day. Spent the day deciding to skip lectures and go early, and still only just made it to the train due to having to hand in essays. Incidentally, I parked illegally to do so, so I may not have a car to go back to. I think I'll be okay, though - Leuchars is a private car park, so what can they do? After doing that run of death, I had to do it again at Edinburgh and then spent the rest of the journey trying not to have a heart attack. Good times by all.

However, I made it here, and that's what counts.

Nothing of interest to the flist happened on Friday; mostly, it was just lazing around. Saturday was more of the same, with fireworks in the evening and off Simon and I went to the boathouse. Yes. That's right. Here in Cambridge (and I believe the same is true to Oxford) each college had a boathouse. This was a good thing, though, because there was a barbeque and it was right by the river and directly opposite the huge fireworks display. I like Bonfire Night - you stand there, freezing to death, wishing you had a hat (if you're me) and watch pretty lights in the sky and all you can smell is gunpowder and the cold. Cold has a a smell, and it's one of the best things ever.

It is bloody freezing at the moment, though. I've been spending an hour or so each day just investigating Cambridge. The weather has practically been icy for the whole day as I've looked through little markets and tiny shops and just wandered. I like the cold when it's not windy, which is the problem with St Andrews at the moment - it's gale force ALL THE TIME.

Anyway.

The last few days I've just spent lazing around, except without Simon; rather understandably, I've been put aside on behalf of the degree. ("I'm sorry!" he keeps on saying. Eh. Him having a degree will hopefully do mad things like give him a job which, in the long terms, means any potential children can have shoes. Ergo, I don't mind him working.) I ended up going to London on a bit of a whim yesterday. I'm sorry I didn't go and see anyone, but I ended up doing my Christmas shopping and I prefer doing that on my lonesome. Speaking of Christmas, same rules apply as last year - don't get me anything, because I can't afford to get you anything. I will be better with cards this years, I promise, in order to make up for it.

I'm not sure what I'm going to be up to today. Well, that's not true. Simon's housemates are liking having me here, I think, on the basis that I, having nothing better to do, started doing the washing up last night and did all the backlog and cleaned the hob and would have done more if I hadn't been waiting to watch Torchwood. That was the first time a Cyberman has ever been scary to be. I mean, Dad always told me how scary they were because they were inhuman, but I never understood that, probably because I'm from the Borg generation - I remember being scared of Borg when I was nine, and I'm sorry, but some eejit in a tin suit is never going to have the same utter terrifying feel as Jean Luc getting turned in Locutus, or the image of a baby being grown as Borg. (Voyager made the Borg wussy. I'm annoyed about that.) This, though, made them scary because you saw the process of becoming a Borg.

The suit was a bunch of shite, though. I mean, why, exactly, did she have heels? That was utter pulp SF nonsense, the same type that means any female warrior wears nothing but a leather bikini and a sword. Anyway.

I didn't half like it, though. It was dark, and creepy, and was everything that I wanted Torchwood to be. Although... a quick thought. You know the way that Torchwood 1 was that big London base with loads of people? Did the Cardiff lot go and help in the fight? Are the five we see there the only survivors from the original team? That would explain why Owen was so scared, that sort of thing. I think there is some fic there, maybe.

The characterisation was lovely. Maybe it was because I was watched with Simon but that was a bit... um... tragic. Poor Ianto, because sweet lord, that's dedication right there and I have a bit of sympathy for that.

Jack has been in love. WITH THE DOCTOR IT IS TRUE LOOKG HOW HE ANGSTS.

I can't think of anything more sensible to say.

Today I am going to make a lasagne for eight people, including one that is gluten free. I am a bit afraid of this, mostly because there is only room in Simon's oven for one lasagne at a time, so I suspect I will have to start cooking pretty soon and utilise the microwave for the rest of the time.

I am so domestic. It's good fun.

Anyway. I'm here for another five days, and I don't know when I'm going to post again, so that's it for now. I am keeping up with my flist, barely, but at the moment LJ keeps on randomly blinking out on me, so it's hard to comment.

I will make you a card and it will include the recipe for Colleen's Gluten Free Lasagne, declared to be a success by the gluten-intolerant girl Simon lives with.

(Okay, it's less a lasagne and more a pasta bake, but seriously, it's quite tasty and cheap to make.)
