My computer is, um, a bit fucked up. It keeps on randomly trying to turn itself onto standby on a regular basis, and I have to keep on poking at it and re-starting it a lot, more each time I turn it on. I am aware, however, of the environment, and I don't want to leave it on all the time because that's just needlessly burning up carbon. It's stabilised now, but it took me fifteen minutes of wrangling this time, and I wanted to start on essays.

My instincts tell me it's a virus, but I can't find any new warnings, and I'm firewalled and virus-checked up to the hilt. Since this problem doesn't seem to shifting by itself, I'm going to take it to IT services tomorrow and cry at them. I have essays to write, and more importantly, I have Robin Hood to watch.

If anyone is aware of a virus that does this (it reminds me, in the way that the computer keeps blinking on and off with no loss of memory or pattern, of the sasser worm of a few years ago) and knows how to budge it, a wee bit of help would go down wonderfully.

In other news, I just had a lecture involving Robin Hood (I wrote 'ROBIN HOOD YAYZORZ!' in my notes and THEN realised that what I'd done was, in fact, not normal and that possibly I had a bit of a problem), miracles, castration, and why my lecturer briefly thought Thomas Beckett and St Wulfstan had healed his dog after getting him castrated. You know, you just don't get that in modern history.

... I will stop spamming now. Honest.

Is it a laptop? Sounds to me more like there's something wrong with the screen-shutting switch. Try this: Start, Control Panel, (if there's a blue background, click Performance and Maintainance), Power Options, Advanced, and change the "When I close the lid of my portable computer" option. If that makes a difference, that's your problem.
