Jun. 28th, 2007 10:39 amSo, as a paid up member of the Labour party (no, honestly, I am, I just sort of didn't vote for them in Scotland), I feel I should be talking about the rise of my dear new leaders, Gordon Brown and Harriet Harman.
Er.
Well.
I'm delighted that Harman got deputy leader - nice one, Labour party, took your bloody time - because she was the closest to Old Labour anyone was going to get, and also I would have gone mad if bloody Hazel Blears had got it.
As for Brown, er, well. I have no idea what to say, because most of the years of my life have been under Blair. I remember my Dad getting very emotional when they won - rightly so, sorry to all the lovely Tories on my list - so let's see how things go. I'm hopeful. I'm always hopeful.

However, since real politices are boring, I have spent the last night having thoughts about the Saxon family.
I have sort of lignored all the theories about Lucy = Rose because for the love of fuck will you all just GET OVER THE FACT ROSE IS GONE SHE REALLY WAS QUITE LAME IN THE END. But actually, now I think of it, I think that maybe she's meant to be a bit of a mirror for the relationship that the Doctor and Rose had, especially towards the end of season 2.
Basically, all humans are a little bit in love with the Doctor, excepting possibly Babs and Ian because they loved only each other. They are. It's natural. If we extend this to Time Lords in general - because let's face it, everyone was in love with Romana as well - then my theory begins to make a slightly more twisted sense.
And sometimes the adoration gets a bit... unhealthy. It is important to put your foot down sometimes and say 'No, Doctor, I think you'll find that's genocide.' He may be showing you magical things and may also be somewhat attractive, but he can still do bad things. The plan may well be a bad and horrendous one. But if the charisma is so much, then you don't say no, do you? You cling on, believing that everything is perfect and magical despite the obvious glaring reasons (Sarah-Jane, Madame de Pompadour, Love and Monsters) that is isn't.
And that's what Lucy Saxon is doing a bit. Rose always used to smile when the Doctor was about to do something that was the culmination of a plan, especially in season 2 when she stopped questioning him and started just agreeing, albeit thinking marvellously for herself when the time came. (Fear Her and Idiot's Lantern are two of my favourites because she does actually cope by herself, although I'll give you that she has no face for some of the latter.) Look at Lucy. She dances. She is completely and 100% agreeing with everything that he does because she believes - in fact, she knows, unless I'm wrong and the Master offs her in the next episodes - that the Master will stick by her and keep her safe and leave her as the special magical companion to all that he does. Remember how jealous Rose was in S2?
Maybe this is all just a bit mad, but yeah, I think there is something in the idea that Lucy Saxon is there as a mirror for Rose, but is there to show the positives of Martha.
"Like when you fancy someone and they don't notice you."
That might be a good thing for Martha, don't you think? Because in all honestly, I think that Rose had been there in The Runaway Bride, I think the Doctor might have gone a bit mental at the Raknoss anyway because I don't think that Rose would have stopped him. I really don't. By Doomsday she was at the point where she didn't question him anymore, just did exactly what was required of her as long as she got to stay with the Doctor. That's not my personal idea of a healthy relationship, I don't know about you. All season, the Doctor (and Jack) had been banging on about how bloody wonderful bloody Rose Tyler was.
Well, yeah, she was pretty good is S1 and had her moments in S2, but Lucy is there to show what might have concievably happened to both her and the Doctor, in the end.Of course, that's probably a load of crap, but there we are.
Also I had a dream in which there was both Romana Mk1 and Mk2. The dream consisted of them trying to destory the universe because they were hypnotised by the Master, but hey, I'll take what I can get.
Today I am going out to see Shrek and to get not one but two more piercings around my navel because today is payday. Hurrah!
