Oct. 4th, 2007 12:52 pmThere were forty people at DocSoc. Forty! And they all wanted to be there, and they all paid up! We are bloody minted at the moment! Less so when we hand people back their cheques and whatnot, but still, it was an astonishing success. I... just... wow. People even stayed after Gridlock! To watch a William Hartnell episode!
Bloody hell, dudes.
Er, yes. But now that is over, I have to get into the nitty gritty of academia again and I have that horrible sinking feeling of panic that I've taken off more than I can chew. I'm entirely sure I can cope (sorry, there should be a 'not' there), but I rather liked lectures, and now I have nothing but piles of books. Big, heavy books. I am actually in the library before I make a quick dash to the reference section for the periodicals; I have lots of reading to do on Samuel Pepys because, oh yeah, I have a big whacking great fifteen minute presentation of the guy and the diary and its limitations to historians to be done by Tuesday. The internet is due to be delivered tomorrow, but due to the postal strike, I have a feeling that won't be taking place. So I have to no idea how I'm doing this presentation. Argh.
I have, however, come with a request! I have just been to my first class for The Middle Ages and the Movies, and there are many of us and few copies of the DVDs. If anyone has these of DVDs - er, whatever region the UK is in, obviously, although if there's a download that would be equally good.
The Name of the Rose (France/Germany/Italy 1986)
Monty Python and the Holy Grail (UK 1975)
Andrei Rublev (USSR 1966)
El Cid ((USA 1961)
The Seventh Seal (Sweden 1957)
Alexander Nevsky (USSR 1938)
Die Nibelungen I: Siegfried (Germany 1924)
In other news, I have started dance classes again and am proud to say that I've still got it. Whatever 'it' is. I am pleasantly stiff all over from too much exercise. Last year, I could legitimately claim that I was cleaning for ten hours a week (it's hard work!) as well as walking for a minimum of an hour every day to go to my classes. I am a lot closer to town this year, and I only have, er, three classes in the space of a week, so my only source of exercise is gone. Dancing is therefore the way forward, dudes.
Right. To the periodical sections for lots of work and then home to Bear Behaving Badly. Why, yes, I am entering the part of my degree where it counts and I'm still watching kids TV. What's your point?
[edit: oh, and I was all cross at not having downloads so I was behind on Heires and SJA and then today I saw a Robin Hood trailer. I don't care how crap it is because I LOVE IT SO. AND I HAVE A BIG WHACKING TV TO WATCHSir Guy of Sexy IT ON. Of course, I would also quite like to have the internet in my house rather than, say, twenty minutes away in the library, but Sir Guy of Sexy Robin Hood will clearly make things better. Yes.]
