Exams remain being over. After a semester of reading and watching stuff for nothing but educational purposes and watching a lot of fairly good TV, I am now revelling in the beautiful and comforting world of fiction.

(Ironically, TV is crap now, but I did have great fun watching Alien vs. Predator despite having never seen any of the Predator films and making bets on who would survive. GOOD FUN.)

Anyway. Saturday night involved going out to the cinema to see an advanced preview of Sweeney Todd, or, as I like to call it, Death Eaters Sing With Bonus Appearance By A Pirate and Borat! Nah, seriously though, it was fab. It's horrifically violent, as a word of warning to the sensitive. Years of zombie films have desensified me, but even I twitched here and there.

Between all that, though, it's brilliant! One bloke on front of me jubiliently exclaimed 'This is the most kick-ass musical ever after a particularly gory scene. It's just... really good. I remember thinking half way through (I have a short attention span) that I was, actually, really enjoying it. Bomham-Carter steals the show, to be honest with you, because Depp is not the world's best vocal talent, but he's, you know, good as always.

It's more London itself that makes it the best; it's dark, it's gothic. People sing and dance a bit, and everything is dark and horrible and miserable. Really, really enjoyable. Go see!

I also schlepped out to the library yesterday and have a big pile of library books to get through, since I have discovered the fiction section which is fairly decent due to the rather liberal approach of the English department. I'm currently in the middle of White Teeth by Zadie Smith which I've always avoided because I mistrust hype about books, despite the fact I then end up loving said books. This can be evidenced by the fact I was up reading it until 2am and was considering just staying awake until it was time to go to work so that I could finish it off.

Still not finished it, but I'm going to dive into it in a bit. I have an apple crumble in the fridge, a pile of fictional books, and busy weekends full of seeing people. Man, I love this time of year.

"Death Eaters Sing With Bonus Appearance By A Pirate and Borat!"

I know nothing about this film and yet that one line makes it sound more awesome than Snakes on a Plane!

Nothing is more awesome than Snakes On A Plane, but the sheer 'WTF?' levels of some scenes totally make it.

hehe ... ditto julia on the snakes on a plane front - very upset i can't find anybody who wants to come here. ah well, it's amazing what you can find online.

i actually liked white teeth, it's one of the few books i studied for a level that i could bear to look at afterwards. Apart from Measure for Measure of course.

Has anything turned up from Sallies/parentals?

I am dying to see Sweeney Todd! Unfortunately me and my friends were going to see it on Friday when they changed their minds and wanted to see Alien Vs Predator Requiem so that's what we're going to watch (I'm gonna get dragged there against my will apparently) and I have to go and see Sweeney Todd at a later date. By myself. Fun.
