Yesterday, the product of a slightly random whim the night before, Katie and I went to the zoo. As one does. After setting off, realising we'd forgotten the instructions, and setting off again, we made it to Edinburgh with absolutely no problems - trust me, this is a minor miracle - and set off in the freezing cold to see some animals.

This is a bit of a tradition. Last time we did this, I was recovering from pleurisy and Derya still lived with us. This year, Katie and I went on our lonesome, armed from previous knowledge with a horde of scarves, coats, batteries for cameras and warm jumpers. PREPARATION IS THE KEY.

It was a good, good day. Freezing cold, but we saw lots of slightly pissed off animals, coming as many of them so from areas that are not blessed with the Scottish winter. Even the polar bear looked distinctly unamused, although the penguins were absolutely AWESOME. Every day, the penguins are let out on a bit of a wander if they so feel and they did so while we were there. Needless to say, I got loads of photos and spent a lot of time squeeing about how cute they were. I did the same thing with most of the monkeys and stuff though, so don't take it too seriously.

(Soon I will put pictures up. The internet is a little spotty at the moment and I'd rather spend my time writing this up than praying for some pictures to co-operate.)

HOWEVER. If you are reading this and think 'Gosh! Edinburgh Zoo! That would be fun!' then DO NOT GO INTO THE RAINBOW FOREST. I like parrots and thought it would be, you know, nice. Instead, we wandered in to the free-flying aviary and re-enacted The Birds as about a million of them decided my head was a good place to nest in. Katie and the zookeeper howled with laughter whilst I sort of squawked louder than the bloody parakeets.

Argh.

Homewards bound involved an exciting trip to Frankie and Benny's before heading home to diest and slump in front of the TV. It was a Good Day All Round.

Today is now Thursday. We had a three-hour committee meeting, primarily spending our time talking about families, Christmas, and housemates and more importantly IT HAS SNOWED. It then stopped snowing, and snowed again, and hasn't stuck and the gales are kicking in, but still. Snow! [livejournal.com profile] tau_sigma, you've been warned.

Now, however, the internet is playing up again and really getting on my nerves, and the washing machine has probably broken and I desperately require clothes. Eeek. We're going to try and test wash soon and if that doesn't work, does anyone have a washing machine I could borrow?

I love Edinburgh Zoo! Onlu not at 4am when I'm waiting outside it for a bus to the airport and I have to worry that the lions are going to come out and eat me ... still, it's an awesome place.

Gah. There is no snow here. On the plus side, I did go up into the mountains with school today and walked around on in the snow they have up there on rackets. I don't know what the point of this was but it was FUN.

Has anything from Sallies/my parentals yet?

Apparently it's blizzard conditions everywhere but St Andrews. Typical! At least you have the opportunity to get to see some of the stuff...

I got the letter from your mum this morning, so just hanging on for Sallies now.

Oh well, one out of 2 ain't bad although I did contact the warden before the exams ... I'll give it til the end of the week and then try again.

Yeah, sounds like the weather's pretty awful down that way though, I was on the phone to Rob and we cut off for a bit. Ironically, it's actually warming up a bit here.

At least you didn't try to go today. One of my lecturers lives in fife and class was cancelled because he couldn't make it over the forth bridge in time...
