Okay. So, firstly, I am not dead, despite the combined efforts of British Rail and Masterchef. The last few days have been... eventful, to say the least, so I feel the need to write about them. You lucky people.

Wednesday consisted of getting the car back with no arguments and it sounds much better now, and getting my laundry done. OH CLEAN NON-EMERGENCY UNDERWEAR HOW I MISSED YOU. After doing all that, though, I discovered Katie and Sarah had returned from the gym.

"We're going to do a Masterchef!" they declared happily. I stared for a moment. We have collectively been watching a lot of Masterchef recently, under the delusion that we are foodie types and also because it's on every day and is reasonably entertaining. Fortunately, they didn't mean barging into a professional kitchen and messing up their lunchtime orders.

Instead, we were on a mission to produce a three-course meal. Because I am apparently clinically insane, I agreed to go first. My menu, as such, was to produce bruschetta, tagliatelle with porcini and a baked cheesecake. I have eaten all of these things but I have only seen one of them made before.

Things I Learnt From This:

1. Do not replace digestives with Rich Tea. IT DOES NOT WORK.

2. Salad dressing easy to make!

3. Gluten-free bread tastes like ass, but if you douse it in stuff it's okay.

4. I AM NOT CUT OUT FOR PROFESSIONAL COOKING.

Oh my god. Seriously. It all turned out tasting okay, but good grief. I so cannot cope with trying to produce lots of meals at once. *flails*

Good fun though, in a sort of scary way. I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone else produces.

Thursday consisted of me coming to Cambridge. This is always a good and exciting thing, and by some miracle my train was actually on time! EGADS. Cambridge is always nice to be in, what with the Simon and all. He is currently at a supervision - WTF? - because they make them actually work here. I had great fun drinking in the bar last night, and I've decided that whilst cheap booze is good, it's not an incentive enough to make me want to work as much as they do here. I have also become the agony aunt, having been thanked by one of his housemates for my woman advice. This is fine in itself, but I have no memory of giving it. Er. Never mind?

Um, yes. As I've said before, I love my life in St Andrews, but being 400 miles from Simon? NOT COOL, YO.

Speaking of things that are NOT COOL YO, I have to go back to St Andrews tomorrow. Even worse, though, I have to start lectures on Monday. Or not. St Andrews is once again fantastically useless in terms of letting us know when stuff is. Does anyone know where the Old Seminar Room is? Or for that matter, the New Seminar Room? The wee timetable thing on the School of History website tells me that stuff is there, but there are no maps on it. FAIL.

Anyway. I'm not thinking about that, because at the moment I'm happy and I am apparently being taken out for food tonight. Huzzah!

400 miles is a very long way. There's a reason I was very firm on the matter of us having free phonecalls after 6pm and having a cordless phone; it makes the distance a bit shorter for half an hour every night.

YAY CLEAN UNDERWEAR.

Old Seminar Room and New Seminar Room - one of them is on the first floor of the mediaeval history building, the other is on the first floor of St John's House (next to med. hist). I think Old is the one in mediaeval history and New the one in St John's, but I wouldn't stake my life on it!

I found my class! Thank you! Old is in medieval and New is in St Johns, which I should have known, given I've had loads of classes in both over the years...
