So last night, someone rang the doorbell. I answered, and was handed a parcel. I got roses! In the form of a shrub, mind you, which means that they will last longer. This depends heartily on my ability to keep the thing alive.

Yay Simon. :-)

Anyway, I watched Reset last night and OH GOD THAT WAS SO GOOD. Er. Seriously.

Look, let's be honest; I think that Martha is The Shit at the worst of times, and as such this was marvellous. Boyfriend! That fact that it is mentioned, quite often, that she saved the fucking world by herself. And was it the Doctor that got her that job with UNIT? Wonderful. Love her to bits.

And even Jack - who has been a little, er, questionable this series in terms of Serious Acting even if he's still marvellous for everything else - was brilliant in this ep. He realy was.

"You are warped on the inside." OH IANTO I LOVE YOU SO. I mean, seriously, I do. He is so awesome.

I knew about Owen in advance. My response was "FUCK YEAH" because I still find myself noticing the way he's marvellous at taking advantage of vulnerable women. So feel for poor old Toshiko, though. I do like Tosh.

I loved that episode. I really did.

Now it is a Friday night. I went to my class today - a Scottish history course about Edward I and his expansion over the British Isles, which sounds suspiciously non-Sottish to me BUT WHO AM I TO QUESTION. Class ratio of a couple of English, two Welsh, two Scots and the rest Americans, primarily JSAs. This is fine in itself, but I do wonder why they beeline so much for the Scottish history when Scots don't; the history taught at St Andrews in general, particularly all of the medieval, is the type it's tricky to get in American colleges (as I understand it) so I'm not sure why there's the obsession with taking a Scottish course.

Huh.

Anyway. My week is over - and even better, I don't have to buy any books this semester! As such, I went into Waterstones with my book tokens from Christmas and am now the proud owner of Elizabeth Gaskell's 'Cranford' (okay, I liked the TV progam), something from Richard and Judy's Book Club (DON'T JUDGE ME) and 'Pies and Prejudice' which is a book examining what it's like being from the North. It sounds far too familiar, especially given that the bloke went to Skelmersdale College, which is incidentally where my sister is studying for the childcare NVQs.

However, I'm going to go and get plastered tonight instead. This is clearly the sensible thing to do. Ys.

Finally someone else who has read/is reading Pies and Prejudice - it's so awesome! Living amongst a bunch of silly southerners for the past two years makes it all just seem sooo true!

It's when he talked about the differences between Old Skem and New Skem, and Sayers and Greenhalghs and Rathbones, and the long-standing emnity between Scousers and woolybacks but why everyone hates plazzie scallies that I may have had to wipe away a tear. Also from the laughing.

Ditto! I sooooo wish I had brought it with me to Mexico...I may have to find a free e-book because the existence of other people who actually know what scousers are, never mind the difference between scallies and chavs, is just too appealing right now!

as a former JYA who beelined for Scottish history...it's a pretty basic impulse to absorb oneself in the culture, since I was there and had to do some sort of history for my distribution requirements anyway.

To be honest, it didn't do much for me, except when I went to Edinburgh Castle I actually knew who some of the people were and wigged out a bit over Margaret's church. Which was somewhat nice.

It's quite a superficial motivation, I admit...I enjoyed my Contemp. British Lit. module much more than my Scottish Fiction one, and I feel like it basically matters on the instructor.

BTW, right there with you on Ianto! I love Barrowman, but sometimes when watching him, I kind of...wince. Ianto is 110% awesome!
