stay out of camberwick green!
Apr. 9th, 2008 03:01 pmI have been wilfully ignoring academic work in favour of developing a social life. Seriously, I should have finished his presentation a week ago and have been flying through the air of gobbet-land, but instead, I'm writing on LJ and going out and seeing people.
To be honest, I couldn't care less. Last time I was back in this corner of the world, I saw no one but octogenarians, co-workers, family and Simon. The last one was the only real bonus of the holiday.
The last few days have been far more exciting. I went out on Monday night with Simon and was appropriately fed and watered (and nearly mugged the chef for the dessert recipe) and last night I went out with Phil, who started DocSoc and of whom I am the dubious successor. Despite being in Preston, which is a. pretty horrible and b. bloody awful to get to, it was a good night and fun to be able to catch up.
And tonight, I'm off to see Jess at Our Local, after having forced my family to eat some of my version of cooking ("Salad dressing? In this house?") and hopefully seeing Simon as well. At what point, exactly, I'm meant to finish the large pile of very important work, I have no idea.
(Isn't it astonishing how much more cheerful I get about being here when I'm not actually in the house very much?)
Not entirely sure I care, actually. Back to St A's on Friday and I can worry about it then.
(Oh, and incidentally, Life on Mars remains awesome. I nearly cried with laughter at the Camberwick Green sequence.)
