Apr. 17th, 2008 09:17 amBecause I am quite clearly clinically insane, I have agreed to DJ at AltSoc on Friday night in Venue 2. This is primarily because otherwise it would have been in Venue 1 during the AltBop and I actually feel physically sick when I think of having to do that.
I have an... er... eclectic music taste. This is code for 'crap'. Whilst I have some songs that I am playing and genre be damned (Space Pirates mixed with Ghostbusters, anyone?), I have rather intelligently left most of my CDs at home.
This means that I need YOUR HELP. Yes, YOU. Tell me what songs you dance to, what songs make you bop around like a mad person. Prferably make them as obscure as fuck. I'm currently trawling through my Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes downloads for some retro stuff, and I'm not so bad of Ye Modern Indie Music, but I want to hear what other people think.
Oh, but Colleen! I hear you cry. What's in it for me?
Other than my eternal gratitude? Well, I will put up the entire set for download when I'm finished, and if you're in St Andrews and fancy coming to AltSoc between 10-11pm on Friday 25th April (yes, I have a whole hour to fill!) then I'll buy you a drink. Can't say fairer than that, right?
... and now I'm going to go and give a presentation.

Date: 2008-04-17 10:19 am (UTC)Oh, and you should totally get like Whigfield - Saturday night, or the Macerana(sp?) or something, all school disco like. Or something.
Anyway, my ecclectic mix:
The Rasmus - In the Shadows - Haqven't really listened to this in ages, reminds me of college.
Maroon 5 - This Love
Vampire - Antsy Pants
Now You're Gone - Basshunter
Goodbye Mr A - The Hoosiers
The Rock Show - Blink 182
Fly - Blind Guardian
Elvis Ain't Dead - Scouting For Girls
The Beast and the Harlot - Avenged Sevenfold
hmm, I've been on a recent dl-ing spree and I quite like The Courteeners. I think they'd be very good for dancing around like a loon. Maybe.
err, yeah. Can you tell I hve nothing better to do today?

Date: 2008-04-17 12:15 pm (UTC)I doubt they'd buy it though.
What kindof stuff are you looking for though? Indie/Heavy Metal/Punk/Classic Rock?
Because they all vary widely and Indie isn't really that alternative anymore.

Oh and Barbara Ann - Beach Boys.

Date: 2008-04-17 11:18 am (UTC)Do you need mp3 files, or can you use iPod files, whatever they are? Let me know and I'll convert them, but I recommend:
"Professional Widow" by Tori Amos (the dance remix on her Tales of a Librarian collection - Track 10 here)
"Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)" by C+C Music Factory (Track 1 here
This weird-ass remix of "Kung Fu Fighting" that's on a CD Morgan brought back from Belgium in 1998. It's by a band called Bus Stop, and I can't figure out where they're from. The song's on iTunes, but I can't find it anywhere else to link you to a sample. But I'll put it on Sendspace if you want.

Coming your way later tonight! :D. I think you'll probably rule out a few more yet for being too heavy, but no problemo, at least you'll have a lot of fun new stuff <3!

'Finding music for Colleen' turned into 'uploading music I like to make people listen to it', so here is some more at my journal, including some stuff I left off this comment because it's probably too well known, or simply because this is a stupidly long list, oops.
Anyway. Enjoy! Hopefully.
