A day in my life; or, to put it another way, the day Katie and I went to Blairdrummond Safari Park. NEVER AGAIN.

Now why, you might ask, has someone who just finished her third-year exams be getting willingly out of bed looking so tired?

It's so early!

Quick shower to wake up...

Pre-prepared pile of clothes, a trick I've learnt over two years of having got up a stupid o'clock for various early shifts.

My beauty regime. Such as it is.

Well, it's a slight improvement!

Tasty breakfast, with my ever-vital cup of tea.

Katie ([livejournal.com profile] stupidore), erstwhile companion and better photographer than me, takes over whilst I do the driving. Given it's my car and I'm the only one who can drive and all.

Timecheck on my Ye Olde Dashboard. I drive a Skoda that's was made after the fall of the Berlin Wall, but you wouldn't know.

Unfortunately, there is a traffic jam on the road I live on. OH NOES. It's caused by ducks waddling very slowly across the road.

At this stage, we're confident about arriving there in an hour and a half or so.

Two hours later, we're cursing GoogleMaps and the FILTHY FILTHY LIES it tells us. A nice lady at a petrol station told us the directions in the end.

We eventually arrive. Hurrah!

For those that don't know, a safari park is like a zoo, except the people are in the cages (well, cars) and you drive through slowly. However, we were severely misled about the amount of animals.

After we go through the enclosure, we decide it's time for lunch. Hurrah! Then we proceed on foot.

Yummy!

Peacocks are loud and scary.

Now, why a small child would be chasing a giraffe was beyond both of us.

Giraffes and zebras!

Someone who spent last summer in Africa on a real safari is not amused.

Elephants!

My head blocks out the elephant.

We go to the Boat Safari, where we get to see Chimpanzee Island. Most of the kids around us make the chimps look positively polite and well-mannered.

We go to Lemur Land. We see no lemurs, but do see a lot of birds.

Katie points out the not!lemur.

Back past the giraffes.

We check out the sealion show, which is actually pretty awesome.

Meerkats!

Penguins.

I love otters!

Wallabies!

For years, I asked my parents for a horse. Years and years and years. Never got one. Can't think why, with this natural horsewomanship I display.

Timecheck back in the car and another quick drive through the animal reserves.

Then we head home, with no photos to document this as I was driving and Katie was asleep. After the hellish time it took us to get there, we found the way home amazingly easily with St Andrews actually sign-posted. Typical!

My typical reclining position, with feet up and a cup of tea.

Deal or No Deal.

Katie is also relaxing.

I prepare a cheese sauce to go over some baked potatoes. This is the second time in my life I've ever made cheese sauce; not bad!

It's ever so tasty!

Yay Hollyoaks!

Some jelly I didn't eat over my lunch. Yay jelly!

Timecheck!

Do my washing up - I'm a very clean person.

Read [livejournal.com profile] shoebox_project for a little bit.

Then it's back downstairs with a glass of wine.

And Stephan Fry!

Scotland doesn't show Have I Got News For You at a normal time, so I watch it about 10.30 instead.

Clean my teeth.

Sexy checked pajamas.

I finish off Wuthering Heights, which is just... odd.

Good night!

Damn, I meant to watch QI!

& why are there no pictures of monkeys trying to steal your radio antenna? This is not a safari park! It is a fake!

There were no monkeys are Blairdrummond, which was my major deal-breaker in agreeing to drive my car through there!

I think the snoozy lions are my favorite.

You have no idea how crap tourist attractions in Scotland can get until you've been to Storybook Glen.

Living in and attending what is essentially one of the better tourist attractions in Scotland has, I think, possibly ruined the rest of this place for me.

Edinburgh Zoo is quite nice, though.

I found this delightful. :)

Also, SHOEBOX. I started giggling around the kids chasing giraffes and then quite a lot more at "Moping and Looking Consumptive and Tragic".

YAY SHOEBOX. I am re-reading and it's SO GOOD. As is sitting around the house in my pajamas reading fanfiction. This is the first time I've done so since September.

ELEPHANTS. I am so jealous. I was going to see an elephant after exams but there are none within a reasonable distance of Durham, so it makes more sense to go somewhere in the Midlands during the holidays. But elephaaaaant. Eeee. *g*

(...this comment brought to you by someone who has never seen an elephant, clearly.)

Ahem, anyway. Looks like a fun day. :) Hooray for photos!

It was a fun day! I think other safari parks are better, though, since I watch a lot of Animal Park and feel my expectations of Blairdrummond, based on Longleat, were a wee bit unfair.

Elephants are pretty awesome, though. :-)
