Jun. 3rd, 2008 08:49 pmFive hours in the basement today, hauling around sacks of clothing and trying to find hangers and got knows what else. My back only gave out after four hours, which for me is pretty good as over the last year I have essentially buggared it the fuck up. My feet hurt just as badly as they used to with nursing, but then, I did a longer shift today than I did in nursing. Er. I think I'm enjoying it? It's a very different atmosphere, which is nice. I am used to health and safety, no make-up, no jewellery, no hair out; having something where my appearance is important, where I can have my hair out, where I don't have to come home and scrub myself clean, is nice. And I like the smell of new clothes, as compared to previous experiences of greasy Chineses and stale beer and nursing homes and sawdust. Despite being referred to as the newest member of the 'Fat Family' and them being a bit scary about customer service and stuff, they reward you with shitloads of freebies and at some points just bribe you with money. It seems okay. I have yet to meet most of the staff, mind.
Anyway. I have been taught how to use the till, still don't have a staff number, and have been let loose on the general public by myself on a few different occasions. This is good, as it gives me something to concentrate on. Hauling around clothes and organising stuff is sort of second nature to me, so by the third hour I wa ever so glad I had the radio for company, although a little distraught to realise that they were, in fact, playing Nothing Compares To You, which just seemed a bit cruel, albeit summing things up a bit in lyrical terms.
Then I came home and had chips and beans, as I couldn't be arsed cooking. Managed to slice my middle right finger open, which is irritating.
Oh, and weather? I only have whtie linen trousers for work at the moment. Raining when I'm walking to work? Not even funny.

Date: 2008-06-04 12:12 pm (UTC)I don't have a staff number yet, so my clothing allowance is currently being lent to me; when I get it through, I have squirelled away so much stuff in the stockroom. "OOH HELLO JEANS WITH CORREXT LEG LENGTH" sort of thing. I will post pictures up then.
