Five hours in the basement today, hauling around sacks of clothing and trying to find hangers and got knows what else. My back only gave out after four hours, which for me is pretty good as over the last year I have essentially buggared it the fuck up. My feet hurt just as badly as they used to with nursing, but then, I did a longer shift today than I did in nursing. Er. I think I'm enjoying it? It's a very different atmosphere, which is nice. I am used to health and safety, no make-up, no jewellery, no hair out; having something where my appearance is important, where I can have my hair out, where I don't have to come home and scrub myself clean, is nice. And I like the smell of new clothes, as compared to previous experiences of greasy Chineses and stale beer and nursing homes and sawdust. Despite being referred to as the newest member of the 'Fat Family' and them being a bit scary about customer service and stuff, they reward you with shitloads of freebies and at some points just bribe you with money. It seems okay. I have yet to meet most of the staff, mind.

Anyway. I have been taught how to use the till, still don't have a staff number, and have been let loose on the general public by myself on a few different occasions. This is good, as it gives me something to concentrate on. Hauling around clothes and organising stuff is sort of second nature to me, so by the third hour I wa ever so glad I had the radio for company, although a little distraught to realise that they were, in fact, playing Nothing Compares To You, which just seemed a bit cruel, albeit summing things up a bit in lyrical terms.

Then I came home and had chips and beans, as I couldn't be arsed cooking. Managed to slice my middle right finger open, which is irritating.

Oh, and weather? I only have whtie linen trousers for work at the moment. Raining when I'm walking to work? Not even funny.

I'd like to work in a clothes shop for the discount aspect, but I like working at Sainsbury's at the moment and if I wasn't going home for the summer I might have applied to some places down here.

Incidentally, I went into fat face the other day for a browse and saw a nice dress that I thought would suit you. You should totally do a post where you post pictures of your new work 'uniforms' I like seeing new clothes =p

See, I ddi Homebase, and I wouldn't like to go back to the supermarket world; this is just a tiny wee shop, with a maximum of four staff on at once. I like the smallness of it right now. PLUS MASSIVE AMOUNT OF FREEBIES.

I don't have a staff number yet, so my clothing allowance is currently being lent to me; when I get it through, I have squirelled away so much stuff in the stockroom. "OOH HELLO JEANS WITH CORREXT LEG LENGTH" sort of thing. I will post pictures up then.

Well, you get a certain amount of money to spend depending on how many hours - mine is £240. However, the clothes you 'buy' with this allowance are also aubject to a 75% discount, meaning they work out to be about Primark prices. YAY.

Compared to my previous discounts in jobs - free meal at the end of the night in the Chinese and 10% off at Homebase - I am thinking that this is a Very Good Job.

I'm glad that the job is good. When something icky happens, it's comforting to have the rest of your life in good solid order. Plus, new clothes: what's not to love? *hugs*

It is a good thing I have employment, as I usually spend Time I Need To Distract Myself (see: exams for other examples of this) cleaning, but new housemate is a bit OCD and taking my cleaning fo herself. So huzzah for new job, etc. (Plus, well, free new clothes.)

Hello, I have randomly added you. I hope that's okay! I saw your post in [livejournal.com profile] share_music and was having a snoop at your icons when I realised that you seem pretty cool.

I'm Hannah - fellow Firefly, Discworld and Doctor Who fan. I'm 18 and about to toddle off to Exeter university to read English.

Nice to meet you!

Randomly adding is more than okay, but I should warn you that my usual sparkling wit and social observations (haha) are not up to much at the moment.
