I took Monday off for two reasons - basically because I could, and also because Fiona asked if I wanted to come with her to a Neil Gaiman signing. Being on a fairly hardcore money-saving binge I ended up just going along for the ride rather than buying a new copy of his book, but it ended up being a rather lovely day. We had a long chat whilst stood in the queue, and when Fiona went through to meet him he was very chatty about The Doctor's Wife. Generally a good thing!

Hungry, we went for lunch at a Lebanese place. We got there and sat down and gave each other a Look, before both ordering the shwarama. LOOK IT WAS THAT KIND OF DAY. I've never had it before - neither had Fiona - and it was actually rather delicious and very filling. I was an obnoxious human being and even took a photo, just to prove that we'd eaten it.

After finishing our food and drinks, we paid the bill and had a leisurely stroll out into the sun, only to basically bump into Neil Gaiman going in to the hotel next door. I KNOW RIGHT.

Slightly baffled by this encounter, we headed back to Walthamstow for a drink in the sun, where we saw a man that looked rather a lot like Neil Gaiman. Okay, it wasn't him, but it was still a mildly baffling moment. Plus they were playing what is quietly my convention anthem in the pub.

Basically, it was a super lovely geeky day. I slightly regret having the day off as the last two days at work have basically consisting of me flinging myself at my email and then stopping ridiculously late. I went in early today and still left 30 minutes late, bah, although I suspect I am now caught up which is something of a relief.

In other news, Richie and I have very quietly been trying out the 5:2 diet the last couple of weeks. Basically, you fast two days of the week (not consecutive) having only 500 calories (600 for men) and then eat as normal on the other days. Both of us have put rather a lot of weight on since coming to London, and this seemed like a quick and cheap way to try and sort it out. We are both rather pleasantly surprised. The 'fast' day itself isn't too bad when planned properly (don't drink the day before, have some carrot sticks to hand, green tea is your friend) and I'm becoming more aware of when I'm full and when I'm hungry as opposed to just thirsty. The weight is moving slowly but securely downwards, and things are fitting that didn't fit a few weeks ago. I know it's a sort of faddy thing to do, but... well, it seems to be working. Basically, I'm on a fast day today and I'm fairly peckish but I also know that tomorrow I can have a biscuit. I have rather low willpower, and this is working for me for now.

Alas, on a work night out on Friday a colleague's wife cheerfully asked how far along I was, so clearly not going that well, but hell, I feel better for it!
