So, having just had a Very Expensive Week involving driving a lot and, you know, a science-fiction convention, I am back in Ormskirk. I decided that I would quietly get on with my job, earn money, meet friends, stay low-profile. All good. I rocked back to work yesterday ("Right, just to confirm, how many people have moved to a different home or the nursing home in the sky? Blimey, I've been away a while") and am quite enjoying catching up with people and working my arse off again. Possibly literally working my arse off, nursing is a great weight-loss program. The hours mean you eat a lot of takeaway, which balances it out, mind.

ANYWAY the point is I don't really like being back here and incidentally I am fed up of the phrase "How's your boyfriend?" to which my response is currently "Er. We're not together" and the explanations are never fun, especially when you're trying to be chirpy and caring. But I am getting on with it, and not even drinking that much, which is my usual 'at home' defence.

EXCEPT I was driving home from work this afternoon, and a little warning light came on. Some investigation with the manual and Dad and I discover that my cam belt - the thing you change after 60,000 miles and I'm at 65,000 and if it does explode takes out your entire engine - is on the way out. I made a noise that can't be transcribed as anything other than "WErew;rowekjrbwre-0v!!!!" and phoned the garage for a quote.

Then I made the noise again.

Ormskirk: not going to plan. PLEASE SEND WINE. I'm off to the supermarket, on foot, to get some.

In that case, what are you doing Fri/Sat/Sun night? (though I am in work 8am Sat)

I am working until 10pm on all of them, god knows when I'll get home as it's a half a hour walk just to the train station...

In that case, how about Wed/Thurs night then?
After that I'm on holiday.

Can I play too? There's a good chance I'll be around next week.

Thursday is my free night (working evenings/night shift all the other times) and would be awesome to see you! Any ideas re: location etc?

I'm working a night shift on the 3rd (Wed) so pretty much unavailable then. The 4th (Thurs) works out nicely for me - I have the day off so can sleep through the morning and then go out in the evening?

Let me know location ideas; we could go out for drink in Liverpool or maybe Southport? I'd need to be home early enough for the train, though...

Thursday is fine with me. Liverpool is better for me than Southport as I can get there more easily, and I'll have to leave time to get the bus back but they go on til about 11 I think. I can't think of much to do in Liverpool in the evening apart from drinking, and maybe eating, so unless anyone has any other suggestions...

Liverpool is good for me too; my last train is at about the same time, so maybe go out for a meal somewhere? I have no idea where is good, but I'm pretty flexible. Meet up around 6.30pm? (Due to night shift I will be in bed until about four in the afternoon, having gone to bed at 9am. Oh, my poor body clock!)

Wow - when you said night shift I assumed a late evening shift. Not an actual all-night shift! I'm free all day (one of the few joys for the unemployed) so 6.30 is fine with me. It'll be breakfast for you then! I'm not sure where either, as I so rarely go to Liverpool I don't know where anything is anymore. I know enid likes Nandos, and there are probably some decent places in the new Liverpool One area or around Matthew St. Maybe enid will know.

Even if it had exploded I wouldn't have gotten any insurance. Not that I contemplated this course of action, just to see how long it would have survived on my sheer willpower..
