rector? damn near killed her!

hathycolToday I am taking part in an Age Old University Tradition. We have a rector ("damn near killed her!") who is going to be installed tomorrow. This is a fairly big deal, for this tradition obsessed university. I won't be going to the installation, as I have work. Instead, I've managed to get DocSoc involved in the Rectorial Drag. This is where the Rector is dragged around St Andrews - literally - and stops off in various haunts to meet student groups, who will give him a present.
We're meeting him in a pub on North Street, and gifting him an inflatable TARDIS. It may have been free in a magazine. Well, he doesn't know this.
I've never really gotten involved in stuff like this; I avoid the Kate Kennedy Procession like the plague, never done the May Dip, that sort of thing. I'm a bit nervous about what to say, as well. ("I didn't vote for you. Uh, sorry. Have a free TARDIS.") I may go and pick some jelly babies up on the way. Jelly babies make everything good.
It's a pretty mental tradition, really. This icon sums up the way that certain things in this world can only happen in St Andrews, Land Of The Crazy.
Unfortunately, I also have a barrelful of work to do which means I probably won't be able to join in the whole Drag; between my debate tomorrow which I still haven't written my bullet points for (luckily, we've agreed to go for theatricals and outright lies rather than historical accuracy) and my exam on Wednesday that I've only revised half of, today promises to be rather stressful.
Not as stressful as this weekend, mind; after about a month of planning, it was Claire's surprise birthday party on Saturday. It was great fun, and surprisingly I didn't get drunk, but I did play Wii Fitness for the first time ever. Not only am I apparently rated as a 78 year old (ohgod) I have also badly pulled a muscle in my shoulder. Yes, that would be my writing side. *headdesk*
Right. Time to go and get some lunch and to get my camera prepared. Busy busy!
