hathycol: (gallifrey go boom)

I spent all last night dithering around and trying to get some help and advice for some medical problems (not mine) and eventually ended up in Ninewells. Discharge came at 4am, when I drove home into the dawn light. I lay in my bed and couldn't sleep for what felt like hours as the birds sang increasingly loudly, and when I did fall asleep, it seemed like the landlord and a chainsaw that is buzzing non-stop somewhere conspired to wake up me regularly. At least the landlord listened to 'sorry, we got out of Ninewells at 4am, could you maybe clean the drains tomorrow?'

Now I am out of bed, and I have to revise the typology of saints and the evolution of the canonisation process, and eat, and go to the library.

And Mister has escaped by moving the lid off his cage and I don't know how he did it, but he's long gone, and I don't know how to find a missing hamster. I hope he's okay, and that he hasn't gone far, and will respond to the cunning trap I'll set up for him this afternoon.

Basically, I am currently a gibbering wreck and have no right to be as at least I have my health for which I am eternally grateful. But I basically just want to sleep because I'm crap without sleep and just get a bit silly and teary. Also hamster. I'm going out tonight for a meal with my kids, which should be awesome. And I don't want to lose the big orange ball of cute fluff, and I have exams in far few too days and basically argh.

... yeah, that's about it.

Oh, sweetheart. You're taking good care of a friend, and if I know you you're being your usual competent unflappable self about it, but it is totally okay and to-be-expected that you're exhausted and feel like a cry afterwards! Look after yourself too, hmmm? And I hope the hamster's turned up.

*hugs* I hope cute fluffball turns up; I'm sure he will. He's clearly a superhamster, anyway, escaping like that.

Also, you. You are lovely, and the fact that you have your health, unlike people around you, does not mean you have no right to be a gibbering wreck. Looking after sick people, even just taking them to the hospital and worrying, can be very tiring. Have a nice meal and then a good sleep tonight, and hopefully things will be much better.

Oh I hope you find your hamster...I know what it's like when one goes missing :( If you have a hunt through my posts tagged something like Pumpkin or Hamster, you'll find some of the ways the people looking after Pumpkin tried to get him back when he escaped. Although they didn't have any success with them, they are worth a try. Both Scott and I have had hamsters before that have escaped and returned.

Luckily our Hamster has thus far proved to be too dumb to escape. If he did the dog would eat him!

(Perhaps Hamster not as stupid as we thought in hindsight of that statement??)

Having had a gerbil who escaped 3times (thanks to other people dropping her! - Stupid humans) I know that the best things to do are keep all doors shut and check the dark cosy corners. You could also set up a humane trap with food inside it - heck even if you just prop up a shoe box the right way it's easier to catch the box than the rodent on its own! Just slide thick card under to seal the box and pop him back in his cage from that.

Hope this helped, Han x

PS. My gerbil was called Lightning not only for the white bolt on her forehead but also her pace! If I managed to catch her I'm sure you can catch your little fella (housemates permitting)

See, our hamster is so bloody stupid that he's just turned up again... not that I'm not glad!

They are secretly SUPER INTELLIGENT. Mine refuses to run on his wheel but can somehow remove a cage lid and put it back on again. WTF.

Our Hamster is superfit (yet still fat), he'll go a good two or three hours trundling round and terrorising the dog per day and then he'll go in his cage and sit in his wheel and wait.

Bear in mind that this wheel is silent when we spin it! He then waits until we're really getting into a programme on tv and then he somehow manages to run on his wheel and make it loud enough to drown the tv out. This then continues until I remove the wheel or Jay removes the whole cage into another room. Furry little bastard.

He shows no interest in escaping, he spend the rest of his time sleeping and eating. Slob!
