hathycolIn fandom news: Richard Armitage has been announced as Thorin Oakenshield. This, ladies and gentlemen, is what we call a Conflict of Interests.
1. I want to see a Hobbit film so badly it hurts.
2. I want to see Richard Armitage on the big screen.
3. Richard Armitage is sexy. I am aware that to many people so are Dwarves, and Thorin is badass at the best of times.
4. BUT HE HAS A BIG BUSHY BEARD AND I DO NOT WANT SIR GUY OF SEXY'S BEAUTIFUL FACE TO BE OBSCURED.
Well, we'll always have the black leather.
Whilst in the gym the other day, I was mulling on Star Trek. I do this a lot, vaguely trying to pretend I'm in some hellish holosuite program or something. Anyway, I was sort of thinking about Captain Proton because although it always makes me smile and the sight of Arachnia is the best thing in the world, it's also quite clever, I think. Tom Paris and his insufferable love of twentieth-century Earth is irrational at best and from a historians perspective very irritating. However, it makes sense - it would be interesting if you actually were in space to see what people thought of it in a hilarious "oh, you crazy ancestors" way. We do it now, looking at the Victorians etc etc, so it makes sense that in 400 years people will be looking at Star Trek and going "Wait, what?" and laughing at some of our loltastic thoughts about what the future would be.
So I thought - well, surely other people in the 24th century have done the same thing. And the idea of the Deep Space Nine crew playing at Doctor Who popped into my head and now it won't go away. I generally despise ideas like that, but the idea of Jadzia Dax holosuiting it up as the Doctor is a charming one; as I panted and puffed through the crosstrainer, I could really imagine her in the Tom Baker get-up, arguing that he and she are similar via regenerations, etc. Possibly Worf would be Adric, I am unsure and the idea didn't hold for very long, but it was an image that made me smile so I decided to share it all. I don't talk about fandom stuff as much as I would like, so there you go. Jadzia Dax in a Tom Baker costume. If I could draw or photomanip or indeed write half-decent fic these days, I would do so.
