WHY AREN'T WE ALL TALKING ABOUT CAPTAIN AMERICA WWWWHHHHHYYYYY.

So OH MY GOODNESS LET'S TALK ABOUT THAT THEN EH.

The capslock might be giving you a hint that I rather enjoyed the film, overall. There were lots of things I liked about it - Falcon! Nick Fury! unexpected fight scene from Jenny Agutter! - but I want to talk about two Very Important Things:

1. The Winter Soldier. "Pwwoar," I found myself unexpectedly thinking, when Bucky was fighting with just the lower part of the mask on, all dangerous and hair and darkness. Then the mask falls off. "Meh," I found myslf thinking.

In the pub yesterday, I was talking about the film with Fiona, who I had gone to see the film with. "OH my god, when he had the mask on!" she enthused, without me having even mentioned anything.

"I KNOW, RIGHT?"

She pulled a face. "But then... he took it off..."

We laughed uproariously. So apparently, everyone THAT IS A THING.

2. Away from that very important thing, obviously, I would very much like to discuss the CONSEQUENCES OF THIS FILM.

a. SITWELL IS EVIL. I am vaguely traumatised by this.

b. I have been quietly convinced that all of the Avengers must know that Coulson is alive - after all, he seems to wander through the Hub with no one batting an eyelid that he's alive. You apparently get to know about him if you're about a Level 7; Steve is a Level 8. Interesting.

c. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR AGENTS OF SHIELD? The UK is behind the USA on episodes; we are, however, ahead of films so there we go. All very strange. I just... can't believe that SHIELD is gone? It doesn't make much sense. There was a mention in a recent episode of AoS, for example, of Blonsky. Surely someone needs to continue guarding the Abomination? And what about the Sandbox? There's just too much infrastructure to dismantle it entirely, although it does tie into the theory of privatising world peace and Stark just taking over, possibly - after all, it hinted that Maria Hill works at Stark Industries now.

d. Where was Hawkeye?!

(I have a vague idea for fanfiction in my head, I must admit, but I can only get as far as one scene. I have a theory that SHIELD kicked him out - maybe to keep him away from Loki's staff - and he's been chilling out at Stark Tower with Bruce and now Tony and Pepper. Natasha rocks up.

"Hawkeye," she said quietly, bringing two open beers from the fridge to the table. Probably Stark's beer, it looked imported. He nodded back, silently. "It's good to see you."

The silence stretched out for a moment longer than comfort called for as they both sat down. "It's surprising to see you," he said eventually. "Thought you'd have been arrested by now."

"Like they could." The silence stretched out again.

"You know," said Clint, hand skittering over the neck of his beer, "I was feeling really bad about going on 'garden leave' from SHIELD. Turns out I was gone from being controlled by Nazis to being controlled by a mad god to unemployment." He took a long gulp of the beer. "Turns out that unemployment is the best choice. Who knew?"

"We did some good too," Natasha said quietly, still not looking at him.

"I read on Wikileaks - and thanks for that, I would have liked to hear it from you - that all of the strike teams had been infiltrated. We were a strike team, Nat. How much red do we have on our ledgers now?"

"I have to believe we did some good," Natahsa said, before raising her eyes to him. "I have nothing left, Clint.")

e. So, er, is Nick Fury just Nazi hunting around Europe? Because I would like to see an AU where he and First Class!Magneto do really, really stylish Nazi hunting. It wouldn't work, but man I would like to see it anyway.

You should totally go and see it. Oh, my love for the Marvel Movie Verse is strong right now. I'm super excited about the new X-Men (even if it's a different canon) and I am VERY excited about Guardians of the Galaxy. When the trailer came on before the film, Fiona gave an excited squeak of "ANDY!" whilst I squeaked "BURT MACKLIN!" Yeah, fandom crossover for the win. I have no idea what GotG is even about, but I do hope that there are lots of Parks and Recreation crossovers when it comes out.
