I remain stranded. The temperatures are very much in the minus. I'm meant to be going to a Christmas meal this evening; I'm going to open negotiations with a taxi firm in an hour or so and see what happens, as it's not too long a walk to major A roads that are theoretically passable, although I have no idea how Ormskirk centre is looking at the moment.
How do you do this, Scandinavia?!
(A note: we are wusses about snow where I'm from. Up to about half a foot we laugh gayly and take the mick out of Southerners, but I've never seen it this bad, and speaking to neighbours when we were shovelling snow yesterday, neither have they. So although in a day or two we'll have probably adjusted, and nothing will stop a Northerner getting to the pub for a long period of time, this weekend is REALLY WEIRD. We're going to try making a series of snowmen in order to clear the drifts of snow off the drive and the road.)
Yesterday I was meant to have the house to myself as Jules and Ed headed out for Christmas parties. Neither could make it, so we all sat in and got hammered on loads of wine, watching Strictly and Take Me Out. I think they're horrified at what awful taste I have in TV. I am now a. slightly hungover, b. suffering from a very sore back from snow shovelling and c. suffering from winter lurgy which isn't bad enough to stop me doing stuff but just bad enough to make me feel sorry for myself.
So, as a note: I am very unlikely to get Christmas cards and parcels out on time. I intended to get them all out on Saturday, but that hasn't happened, and I can't see the weather defrosting enough to let me get the car to work tomorrow and then to the post office in my lunch break. There is a point here about the need for a village post office that I'm not going to make. SORRY EVERYONE.
-7C outside at the moment. Deeply, deeply weird.

Date: 2010-12-19 04:47 pm (UTC)The trains seem to be running so it doesn't seem that bad. It's just cold when you walk in it.
I'm still enjoying myself, but I think that's because I know I don't have to go anywhere till Tuesday when I'm sure the train's will be fine =)
