I remain stranded. The temperatures are very much in the minus. I'm meant to be going to a Christmas meal this evening; I'm going to open negotiations with a taxi firm in an hour or so and see what happens, as it's not too long a walk to major A roads that are theoretically passable, although I have no idea how Ormskirk centre is looking at the moment.

How do you do this, Scandinavia?!

(A note: we are wusses about snow where I'm from. Up to about half a foot we laugh gayly and take the mick out of Southerners, but I've never seen it this bad, and speaking to neighbours when we were shovelling snow yesterday, neither have they. So although in a day or two we'll have probably adjusted, and nothing will stop a Northerner getting to the pub for a long period of time, this weekend is REALLY WEIRD. We're going to try making a series of snowmen in order to clear the drifts of snow off the drive and the road.)

Yesterday I was meant to have the house to myself as Jules and Ed headed out for Christmas parties. Neither could make it, so we all sat in and got hammered on loads of wine, watching Strictly and Take Me Out. I think they're horrified at what awful taste I have in TV. I am now a. slightly hungover, b. suffering from a very sore back from snow shovelling and c. suffering from winter lurgy which isn't bad enough to stop me doing stuff but just bad enough to make me feel sorry for myself.

So, as a note: I am very unlikely to get Christmas cards and parcels out on time. I intended to get them all out on Saturday, but that hasn't happened, and I can't see the weather defrosting enough to let me get the car to work tomorrow and then to the post office in my lunch break. There is a point here about the need for a village post office that I'm not going to make. SORRY EVERYONE.

-7C outside at the moment. Deeply, deeply weird.

I drove to Southport from Crosby yesterday and it was fine (I even got up to 40mph on the bypass!), it was just the two roads I have to take to get to a main road that were a little snowy (but lots of people had already driven in their 4x4s so I drove in their tracks). However today is worse because all the compacted snow has just turned to ice! I haven't been out in the car today but my Mum has and she'll take me home later probably.

The trains seem to be running so it doesn't seem that bad. It's just cold when you walk in it.

I'm still enjoying myself, but I think that's because I know I don't have to go anywhere till Tuesday when I'm sure the train's will be fine =)

Had to take emergency trip to Ormskirk for late Christmas shopping and made the horrible mistake of going up Burscough street and got myself firmly stuck at the top of the one way system near the library and some very kind people pushed me out. It seems if you stick to the main roads (the one way system was ooo-kay sort of) then it should be alright. However Ormskirk town centre pedestrian areas themselves are TERRIBLE! Skidded all the way out of Boots with arms wheeling and everything. So glad to make it back home safe.

I'll have to at least make an attempt to get to work tomorrow and I'm really not looking forward to it. Last night the Met Office recorded -16 at Crosby last night. Thats nuts!

I'm in St.Helens and it's 6 inches deep and -6 here. Apparently more is on it's way cause according to my sister it's supposed to be 12 inches deep before Christmas is out. So either way, it looks like it's not going to give up anytime soon. But I do hope at some point you manage to get out! And if you don't post before, I hope you have a fantastic Christmas!
