I went to bed nice and early last night. Although I had spent much of the day in a nest on the sofa (in order to be near the loo so I could throw up) I still felt rubbish. The headache was replaced by a different headache, and an increasingly sniffly nose, but I felt a good night's sleep would cure it. Have woken up with terrible cold and comedy laryngitus.
I am tempted to howl "IS THERE NO JUSTICE IN THIS WORLD" but to be honest I have thoroughly brought this one on myself, as I know for a fact that sore throat plus alcohol makes comedy laryngitus, but I was aiming to sound this rubbish for work and get a bit of a time off, so hitting during my work holidays seems unfair.
Jules and Ed are going away for Christmas today. I'm going to go and see other humans on Friday, as I need to go and pick up the engagement ring and also buy food as by then I reckon I'll be scavenging from the ground. Let's hope the trains are running by then, will die otherwise. (They seem to not be going anywhere at the moment, which is problematic as they represent my only link to the outside world and even with that will take about half an hour of penguin waddling to get to.) I will also hopefully be able to put Christmas parcels in the post on Friday. We shall see.
Your main fandom of the year?
To be honest? Probably Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Although there were other shiny amazing things that I participated in, and I cosplayed as Sookie Stackhouse, DS9 is all I managed to write fic for this year. Also I watched the entire thing and spent a lot of it howling, and my car is still called Odo.
Your favorite film watched this year?
Scott Pilgrim Vs The World neatly followed up by Kick-Ass. Scott Pilgrim had a massive problem of having a crap female protagonist, but I loved the rest of it so much to the extent that the soundtrack is still my car CD which may have surprised them when I put the car into service. It stole the thunder from Kick-Ass very, very slightly, only because I feel the direction was a tiny bit better. Come on people, it's Edgar Wright!
Your favorite book read this year?
I have absolutely no idea what I managed to read this year. Er. I read a lot, actually. A book has immediately popped into my head but I can't remember what it was called or who it was by, but it scared the living daylights out of me and was very historically accurate. Company of Liars by Karen Maitland is what it is called!
In terms of books I remember the names of, it would have to be Wedlock: How Georgian Britain's Worst Husband Met His Match by Wendy Moore. It's a non-fiction book about the Countess of Strathmore; after her husband died, she was tricked into marriage through a fake duel and the whole story is horrific but fascinating, and it was told really well. So that one.
Your favorite album or song to listen to this year?
Scott Pilgrim Vs The World soundtrack. I love me a bit of Sex Bob-Omb.
Your favorite TV show of the year?
... in terms of stuff that was on exclusively this year, it's actually Doctor Who. It was ever so good, wasn't it?
Your favorite LJ community of the year?
ontd_startrek. Don't judge me, I judge myself.
Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
I don't know if it counts, but Downton Abbey mostly because I watched it all in an insane bout in about three days and I was amazed at how much I loved it. I am very quietly scribbling fanfiction that may never see the light of day.
Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
Odo leaving Kira. I know it technically happened about twelve years ago, and I think I was even aware of it on some small level, but OH GOD ODO WHY WHEN YOUR LOVE WAS SO TRUE AND HE WORE A TUXEDO AND OH MY GOD WHY. I howled my eyes out at that one.
Your TV boyfriend of the year?
Arthur Pendragon, but only when he is shirtless. SHUT UP.
Your TV girlfriend of the year?
Kara Tointon Amy Pond.
Your biggest squee moment of the year?
"RORY YOU'RE ALIVE!!"
The most missed of your old fandoms?
This year I have very much missed Stargate SG-1. That said I shall never watch the later seasons. NEVER.
The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?
True Blood. The fandom seems a bit scary, really and I don't hate Sookie which I think I'm meant to?
Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
Finding out when there's going to be a new Star Trek film. New Doctor Who! And new Merlin, as well; if they've been reduced down a couple of episodes, we may have less Comedy Episodes and whilst I like one or two I can't handle five of them.
