Jules and Ed are having a dinner party with their parents. I am hiding upstairs. I have not been told to do this, and in fact was invited to join them (thank god for being fussy and not eating meat, awesome get-out clause), but I just can't cope with interaction tonight. I dug the car out today and went to Tescos, but that's as much energy as I have right now.
In the interim:
01. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before?
Moved out of my parents house in a non-academic setting.
Been snowed in.
02. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Well, I sort of did, because I got out of my mother's house and have made significant steps towards being a real grown-up. That said, I still don't have that new job.
03. Did someone close to you give birth?
Not this year.
04. Did anyone close to you die?
Again, not this year. I'm grateful for this.
05. What countries did you visit?
This year I've been properly globetrotting! I went to France in January (Paris) and over the summer I went to Crete.
06. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?
A new job.
07. What date from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
11/12/10. ENGAGEMENT BABY.
08. What was your biggest achievement(s) of the year?
Moving out, I think. Not killing my boss.
09. What was your biggest failure(s)?
Not getting a new job was a significant failure.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Two bouts of tonsillitus, and the cystitus attack of death in the summer. Lucky me!
11. What was the best thing you bought?
I don't think I bought much this year, really.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Definitely Richie's, I think!
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Megan's behaviour was awful, as always. The behaviour of my employer continues to appall and depress me.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Um? Holiday in Crete ate a lot of it, and car repairs ate the rest of it. Plus some moving in costs.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Getting engaged! Plus, going on holiday and getting to move out.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. Happier or Sadder? Sadder in the present, but a lot happier about my future.
ii. Thinner or fatter? Due to a summer of dieting, an autumn and winter and actually taking some exercise and a last minute bout of winter lurgy, I am thinner. Only a little, but I feel better for it.
iii. Richer or Poorer? I was richer, until all my savings disappeared.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Job-seeking. Sleeping. Socialising. Oh god, what have I been DOING this year?!
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
As always, drinking. Crying. Cried a lot this year. Undignified, really.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
I spent this Christmas vomiting, shivering, at one point hallucinating, and generally having a rubbish time. I don't recommend it.
22. Did you fall in love in 2010?
I never answer this question.
23. How many one-night stands?
None.
24. What was your favorite TV program?
Probably Deep Space Nine. ODO INNA TUX *wails*. Downton Abbey made a bid, too, s did Doctor Who.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I am a remarkably angry human being, but in terms of actual visceral hate? No.
26. What was the best book you read?
In literally the last few days I've read World War Z by Max Brooks. It's that.
ETA: ALSO ALSO ALSO: Company of Liars by Karen Maitland. I forgot the name of this and remembered yesterday. This addition is dated 23/03/11!
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Does Sex Bob-omb count?
28. What did you want and get?
To move out of my parents house.
29. What did you want and not get?
A job; living with Richie.
30. Favourite film of this year?
Scott Pilgrim Vs The World.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was 23. It was meant to be lovely; I was in Crete, I had a massage booked, good times were going to be had. Instead I woke up with cystitus and cried a lot because I didn't know the Greek for 'antibiotic' or 'burns when I pee'. I, er.
32.What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
To have got a bit further in the Planning My Life aspect of things. In the last two months I've made concrete steps towards that, but I really could have done better, hence Richie and I STILL living in different countries.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
'Man, I Love Primark.'
34. What kept you sane?
You lot.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
This year has been pretty quiet, but Karen Gillan is rather lovely, isn't she?
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
The useless FUCKERS that call themselves our government have made me rather cross at times. 'Stirring me most' would probably be the way that is their time in power they've managed to write off the young, the ill, and the poor. Well done.
37. Who do you miss?
A lot of people, as always.
loneraven is in Americaland. Approximately 99% of people I knew in university are in parts of the country I am not. Richie is in Scotland. Discuss.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
I haven't met any new people this year, really, but there's a guy called Matt who sometimes goes to the pub quiz with us and he seems like a nice guy. He always laments that there aren't enough questions on 5th century BC Greek city states.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010:
That things can always get better, even when it seems like they can;t.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Tell them how I'm defying gravity; my chance to fly, defying gravity.
