On Thursday night, Richie and I headed towards Manchester with the aim of Going To See Art. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, to be quite honest; I knew there'd be art, and we vaguely knew where we were going, and that was about it.

It was the MOST AWESOME NIGHT I've had in a long while.

When we got to Manchester, we met up Ann, Lucy, Fiona and Tali, who were all brave enough to travel in Star Trek costumes. As I assumed (probably rightly) that school children in Southport would set me on fire if I rocked up on the train in a Star Trek dress. After getting changed in the toilet at the train station (classy, I am it) we headed to Fab cafe, finding Hass (Tali's housemate) on the way.

Fab Cafe is a sci-fi themed bar in Manchester. Other than the fact the food isn't up to much and it's also hideously expensive, the bar itself is MARVELLOUS. Filled with sci-fi memerobillia and also with Bucky O'Hare on the telly (!!) it was very good indeed. Still, it was just a quick pit stop to Generation Pop, which is an art gallery. There was a guestlist, which we were ACTUALLY ON. I've never been on a guestlist before!

Anyway, in we headed, where there was art and also copious amounts of free booze. This is an important fact as we are also cheapskates. However, our attempts to Appreciate Art and Drink Wine were scuppered by being attacked by the press. Okay, by 'the press' I mean 'Manchester Evening News' but nevertheless, it's almost like a large group of women under 30 in Star Trek dresses for some strange reason attract attention. This is bad. However there were actually very few people in costume, and the guy dressed up as a Borg was also being attacked by the press so possibly it was just a numbers thing. Also, we don't appear to have rocked up on the website yet so that may be for the best...

Anyway, we hit the free wine with some more aplomb and actually looked at the art. The pieces are wonderful at the exhibition, and I was actively encourage people to go. If I had several hundred pounds spare, I would probably have bought all of it!

We chatted to some random people at the exhibition, and made unexpected friends with the CBS dude. I do not have this channel, but apparently on the CBS repeats of Star Trek they have someone introduced random Trek facts; he was there and became friendly with us! (Mostly Ann...) So now we are Famous Ladies. Sort of.

After we'd ploughed our way through the free booze, and the night was stretched on, we had a brief stop for chips and then moved back to Fab, where we danced around like a madwomen to various sci-fi things. Once again, we were the only people who knew how to do Star Trekking. I am now used to this. Still, it was brilliant fun, even though I woke up the next morning in absolute agony because I am so unbelievably out of shape!

Fiona got hit on by a bloke who looked the spit of Tom Hiddleston, but a sort of creepy version, and the night just seemed to spin on but in the best possible way. Eventually, though, we all drove back to Ann's house, courtesy of Fiona, and fell into very kindly provided beds.

And here is a photo of us looking like over-enthusiastic eejits. There is ART in the background!

YAAAAAAAAY.

Tonight Richie has gone to Liverpool on a Night Out. I would be more peeved at this, but basically I get to sit on my sofa, watch Strictly, Who and X-Factor and no one but the internet is juding me at this so to be honest I reckon I've won on this one. Tomorrow my parents are coming to dinner, so there will be some frantic cleaning and attempts to remember that I can cook. Good-o.
