(no subject)
Dec. 30th, 2011 11:44 amI do this every year, and this year is no exception.
01. What did you do in 2011 that you'd never done before?
Moved in with A Partner.
Been paid for some freelance writing.
Bought a washing machine. (Shut up, this is an achievement.)
02. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Still no new job. I am doing really, really well on the wedding planning scale though. Plus, I drink less alcohol now.
I don't have any resolutions for 2012, really.
03. Did someone close to you give birth?
Er. Define close?
My mother's half-sister gave birth to a little boy, Kamran. That said, I just don't especially like the woman so on a technical relative level, yes, but on an emotionally close level, no.
04. Did anyone close to you die?
No, and I am grateful for this.
05. What countries did you visit?
I moved to a different county. The county next door to the one I was already living in. This is about as close as I got this year.
06. What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?
WEDDING RING. I technically have one of those, but it needs re-sizing, cleaning, and actually getting married.
Also a new job, but I've said that for two years.
07. What date from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
09/05/11, wherein I moved to the flat in which I am currently sitting.
08. What was your biggest achievement(s) of the year?
I haven't killed any of the people I work with. Plus I moved out properly and now I pay council tax and everything.
09. What was your biggest failure(s)?
Still no new job, albeit voluntarily due to bonus scheme next year for continuous service. Also I am horribly overdrawn.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Appalling cold, after a year of reasonable health. Buggar. Richie also got the first trip to A+E with me in April, when I fell up the stairs and banged my arm quite badly. My mum sympathised with Richie and explained this was the first of many of our lives.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Possibly my wedding dress? Maybe? I haven't bought a great deal this year. I sponsered an Adelie penguin for Richie for Christmas this year. That's pretty awesome.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
I never thought I'd say this, but my mother's. After years of frankly being a bit odd, she has been unbelievably helpful on the whole wedding situation, including getting hammered with the bridesmaids at the wedding dress fittings, paying for aforesaid dress, and being generally helpful.
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
My sister. As always. My boss. As always. David Cameron and George Osbourne.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Rent, deposit for flat, unexpectedly large car insurance payment.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
New flat, wedding stuff. Anytime I got to see distant friends was also very exciting.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. Happier or Sadder? In a general sense, I am much much happier. I feel I'm moving somewhere with my life.
ii. Thinner or fatter? Suspect fatter. I have some Feelings about this. I keep them to myself. Mostly.
iii. Richer or Poorer? SO POOR.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Er, everything. This year has been a quiet year, for sensible reasons, but now I come to write it down I wonder where it has all gone.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
(Last year's answer:) "As always, drinking. Crying. Cried a lot this year. Undignified, really."
I think maybe still appropriate.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Spent it! The morning was at home, opening presents ridiculously early. Went to my parent's house in the afternoon and ate too much food. Then Richie and I shared a single bed again for the first time in about a year and nearly killed each other. Did pretty much the same on Boxing Day.
22. Did you fall in love in 2011?
I never answer this question.
23. How many one-night stands?
None.
24. What was your favorite TV program?
There's been no big wins for TV for me this year, other than possibly Frozen Planet. So Doctor Who, you win again!
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I am a remarkably angry human being, but in terms of actual visceral hate? No.
26. What was the best book you read?
The Crimson Petal and the White.
Also, I've only read part of it, but Reciever of Wreck by
loneraven has thus far managed to get my very hooked.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
PISS ALL.
Music this year? Crap. The closest I got to a new musical discovery was Duran Duran and frankly enough I don't think they count.
28. What did you want and get?
A flat of our own with Richie.
29. What did you want and not get?
A new job.
30. Favourite film of this year?
The Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sur. This film? AMAZING. Watch it. There are DINOSAURS and MUMMIES and HILARIOUS MOUSTACHES and basically it is the best thing since toast.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
24. I went to work. I came home. I had a bath.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Still a NEW BLOODY JOB.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2011?
'Whatever, This Still Doesn't Have A Hole In It.' You know what I get to do in 2012? BUY SOME NEW CLOTHES.
34. What kept you sane?
You lot. Disorientated Graduate.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Richard Armitage. Alas. He will never leave my heart. (Or my hormones.)
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
So, so many things, but it was library closures that finally stirred me to march in Liverpool this year. Go figure.
37. Who do you miss?
I live in a town where the only people I know are Richie and Mum when she's in work. I miss everyone.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
It's not that I've been anti-social this year, you understand. NOT THAT AT ALL. But, er, no one? That I can think of? That I do not actively work with?
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011:
WEDDINGS ARE EXPENSIVE.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Music this year, as I've said, has generally failed to inspire me in any real sense. A song that has been stuck in my head, though, is some indie landfill from about four years ago:
"I'm so sick sick sick and tired/of working just be retired..." Away From Here, by the Enemy has been fairly telling about my whole life this year. There's lots of things I want from a job, but the thing I want the most from a job is a steady income. Which I have. At the moment. But it's desperately uninspiring, which is why this year I've tried to reach beyond 'my employment is my indentity'. I don't know how well it's working, but there we are.
I should be in work today. Due to unexpected day off I am in my pajamas instead. Win!
