Can I just take a moment to point out that I have not even been slightly affected by the helicopter crash in London, unless you include when I had to text Mum to assure her of the same. Or lots of people in work being late. Either of them.

Yesterday I went to see Sue Perkins record Dilemma! I sat on the third row and probably stared in a slightly creepy way! Oh Sue Perkins, how I adore thee. She was much funnier when unscripted, and I'm curious to see how much of the show will be edited out. I also particularly enjoyed getting to see her say "And BAKE!" live, which is the most middle-class sentence I have ever said.

Also, I knew about the ticketing system in advance due to [livejournal.com profile] loneraven and [livejournal.com profile] tau_sigma and they were right, it is a marvellously civilised system. You turn up, get your ticket stamped, and then go off and do your own thing until the show starts, so if you don't get in you know about it SUPER early and if you do then you can go off and have something to eat and stay out of the cold which by the way it very much is right now.

So, in conclusion, I thoroughly advocate going to see a BBC recording if you can wangle tickets. But stay away from Dilemma, THAT'S MY PATCH NOW. I can say this, you see, because I'm also going next week which definitely don't look like I'm a stalker. What can I say, my love for Sue Perkins is a long-standing one.

Now I am exhausted. It was been a moderately long week and I am very aware it's only Wednesday, and I have all sorts of things coming up but I think tonight is an early night.

I'd like to go and see pointless be recorded.
What do you mean about ticket stamping?

I haven't done it, but iirc they give out more tickets than there are seats, in case people cancel, because they want a full house for the studio audience. So on the day of recording, you need to be one of the first X number of people to get there - pulling numbers out of thin air, say they needed 30 people and they gave out 50 tickets, you want to be one of the first 30. But rather than shepherding those first 30 into a room to wait however many hours between when they arrive and filming, the ticket-takers will just rubber-stamp a mark on the tickets of the first 30 people to present them. Those first 30 can then spend their waiting time shopping or whatever they want. Anyone who shows up a bit before filming and presents a stamped ticket then has proof they're one of the first 30, and gets let in directly; anyone who isn't one of the first 30 finds out as soon as they turn up and present their ticket, rather than waiting in a long queue only to be turned away after wasting part of their day. It's very practical. :D

That's exactly right! On a deeply cold night it makes all kinds of sense :-)

In terms of the ticket stamping, what [livejournal.com profile] justice_turtle says is about right - it's good because it means you don't wait in the cold and then find out you're unsuccessful.

To apply you just go on the BBC website and they advertise whatever they have available - luckof the draw, I think!
