I have had such a lovely weekend, and this icon is totally appropriate rather than me not being bothered to faff through whatever smiden LJ still lets me use.
See, last weekend was... not that good. I had two days in the house by myself as Richie was working in Manchester, and he came home on the Thursday with a stonking great stomach bug. One of the most fun issues with this (other than that the Queen got it a few days later) was that Richie had a friend staying on Friday night. This friend is a lovely person, but to be honest he and I have never clicked so it's always a bit awkward in terms of making light conversation. An ill Richie meant I had to take on a lot of burden. Richie insisted on powering through, so at least I got a Saturday day time to myself. But yeah, it was a sort of awkward weekend, and it felt like a long week as I just hadn't had time to recharge.
But this weekend! Was awesome!
loneraven came by for the noble purpose of wedding dress shopping, during which I returned the favour she kindly paid me well over a year ago now. It was an awesome day - we had wine with every meal (Bucks Fizz at breakfast? Well why not) and generally lots of good fun. In the end she has stuck with a dress she's already bought which she looks fabulous in and made me a little weepy but I enjoyed watching her try on dresses. PLUS we went to Fairy Gothmother where she was assisted by a pirate. A pirate with excellent customer service skills, but still a pirate. Man, I love old goths. They are the best subgenre.
When we came home, there was an evening of more wine, Flash Gordon, Bride of Chaotica and then some original KHAAAAAAAN just because we could. Basically, a good day all around. Today heralded a lie in, and when Shim came to pick up Iona (he had been busy drowning in a white water rapids boat, long story) he came in and we all had a good catch up. And also decided that an independent Scotland would be heavily expansionist, taking back all of the islands, and the north, and definitely Northern Ireland. ("We could call this new land 'the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland'" suggested Richie.)
Back to work tomorrow, but for a four day week. Astonishingly, Richie and I got married very nearly a year ago, and next weekend we are off on a visit to Stratford-upon-Avon to celebreate a year of marriage. Egads.
