SO STAR TREK.
Fiona came round on Friday night and we watched all of the Trek, by which I mean 'the first six'. We took breaks for stuff like food, Have I Got News For You, Doctor Who, and sleeping. We are clearly not committed enough. ALTHOUGH HEY I WATCHED THE MOTION PICTURE which is fairly committed.
"I don't remember this bit," Richie said.
"You fell asleep the first time around," I replied, somewhat accusingly.
Anyway. Having watched all of the Trek, I have some important talking points.
1. Richardo Montalbahn is still the best thing, well, ever. Particularly now they're not browning him up.
2. WHALES. God, that film is still awesome. Gillian's nipples become more alarming as time goes by, though.
3. So for years I have been misremembering Final Frontier and Undiscovered Country as sort of the same film in terms of awfulness and occasionally plot. As such, Undiscovered Country was actually a rather pleasant surprise, with a surprisingly engaging plot and good sense of humour to it. Great Klingons, though. The problem was, of course, that all of the cast were about ten years too old. Horrible thing to say, but there we go. Shame, really.
4. Have it been established if Admiral Cartwright is related to the Siskos at all?
5. Can someone remind me how Lawyer!Worf is related to Actual!Worf? I seem to recall that it's his grandfather and there are accusations of the whole family being Federation lovers, but have I just made that up?
6. Why on earth didn't they ever make Excelsior? Why is all we ever got of the awesomeness of Captain Sulu was one film and an episode of Voyager? Because seriously, Sulu = awesome. This may be somewhat influenced by George Takei basically being my internet grandpa. Still, though.
It was a good weekend, though - quite chilled, lots of mild heckling, lots of red wine but not too much, and some nice healthy lie ins. No complaints here.
Plus today, I have an expected payrise and bonus! I had my appraisal a couple of weeks ago and wasn't expecting anything, purely because, well, I've not been there long enough, but apparently I am doing marvellously and have earned a little boost and a nice healthy bonus. I am going to use most of it to pay off the bills (lucky me) but I'm going to be naughty and buy new shoes with it. BECAUSE I CAN.

Date: 2013-04-22 08:52 pm (UTC)Did you spot last week's Russian mad scientist in two roles (and races) in as many films?
(Last week I did the HP marathon - eight films in two days. NEVER AGAIN!)
