So this weekend I went to Aberdeen. Er, it was, er. Flying from Heathrow was a new experience, but there was something dreadfully depressing about flying from a cloudless London to a raining, 6 degree Aberdeen.

Still, Richie and I were staying in a hotel, which was quite nice. On the Friday his mum came to pick us up. it can be fairly fraught seeing Richie's mum, but she took us for a really nice meal and showed us her house, which is very much in the countryside so it was a pleasant aside, to see some greenery and wildlife for once. We managed to head off reasonably early too, so got an early night in.

We spent a lot of Saturday with Vicky, which was actually quite good. She's a scary 14 now but looks much older, and we went out To Town where I managed to get nabbed by make up demonstrators. Oh dear. We had some food and got changed in our hotel room, as Kenny and Iona were going to the wedding all day. All of us Young People were only going to the evening do, so we headed out bravely into the night to the wedding itself.

The evening was... odd. I find the Aberdeen accent a little strong at times, and even though I'm slowly managing to put names to the faces of Richie's ridiculously large amount of family, it was still baffling. The reception venue was really nice, and people kept buyin me wine. I was being sensible and mixing it with lemonade, but gave this up when Richie went off to speak to his family at one point and I was lugged off to babysit briefly. I am terrible at small children at the best of times, particularly ones I have no vested interest in. After that I ended up drinking rather more wine, as you may all have been able to tell by my last update. Plus, I was mildly distressed to be told that one of Richie's cousins was at the bar, cheerfully slagging off the English with Richie's brothers and uncles. Oh dear. Awkward times.

The next day I had a fairly stonking hangover.

Still, hangover aide, I had a reasonably good time on the Sunday and Monday, with Richie's dad and family. Food was had, and reasonably good chat. We came home on Monday a little earlier than we expected, in the end. I think I'm just not very good at Doing The Inlaws, simply because I panic a bit. It's ridiculous, they're all lovely people, but there we go. Plus there was some awkward moments when Richie's mum was laying into Lisa, the other daughter-in-law, and I vaguely wonder when it'll be my turn.

Ah well.

Back in work now, which was going rather well and busy until the point when it all fell apart this morning. Long, boring story, but deeply frustrating and means I'm deeply not in the mood for a company event tomorrow evening. I'm sure things will be better tomorrow, but at the moment I just feel a bit tired and ready for the weekend. This is a problem, on a Wednesday!
