It was a very long week at work, I must admit. The weekend didn't look to be much better. I had to get up at 7.45am on Saturday for the privilege of taking my car for MOT. I bastarding hate MOTs, mostly because I'm not very good at cars so can't confidently know what I'm talking about, and I'm alwys worried they're going to rip me off. Copious amount of research means that I found what looked to be a half decent one within walking distance of the house. They were okay, in the end - very polite to me, anyway.
After dropping off the car, I ambled down the high street to do my weekly shop, a job that normally takes about an hour. Imagine my surprise when I managed to get back to the house by 9am. It was a deeply confusing morning.
We had an old friend of Richie's coming for lunch, so I cleaned the house in a mildly baffled way. Seriously, me getting up before Richie on a weekend is basically a miracle. Richie woke up, and a little late Alistair arrived, and a very civilised lunch occured, albeit with me wandering off to pick up the car half way through. It wasn't too expensive, but still more expensive than I was hoping for. Oh well.
Still with the whole afternoon ahead of us, Fiona ended up coming around and we watched a lot of Psychobitches. Have you been watching Psychobitches? It is a fabulous, fabulous program. The basic concept is famous women from history having therapy, with Rebecca Front as the therapist. It's just... awesome. I think my favourites are Diana and Eve ("Well, you know, it could be worse, yeah?" "Well, god knows..." "GOD KNOWS?! WHAT?!") but it's just a thing of wonder and beauty. Plus, it doesn't mess around with popularism. It'll be people you know, then there'll be a joke about Lot's Wife, and then there'll be a Golda Meir joke. Go away and watch it, people, not least for the delight of a program about women, and by women. (Okay, there are some blokes in it, but trust me, it works and they are very much the minority.)
On Sunday Richie and I ened up going out as part of our Explore New Areas Of London quest, and went to Whitechapel. It was... er... yeah. We found a pub and got gently sloshed, and then I declared I wanted to go to Tayyabs. I read the Guardian, I read about restuarants, I never actually bloody go to them but I decided this is a thing we were going to go. It was totally, totally worth it. Utterly delicious, not too long a queue, and dirt cheap. Om nom nom.
Of course now the weekend is over so it is back to work. Did I mentionn the busy? Because yes, BUSY. *falls over*
