So, this weekend was sort of in two halves, I suppose.
Luckily, I can in fact start with the good. On Saturday morning we woke up at a tolerable time and headed up to Leeds for Tali's Unbirthday, a now sort-of annual event that's always good fun. The drive up was quite nice, actually; the sun shone most of the way, and the roads were clear, meaning I could bask in two now-unfamilar sensations - driving and warmth. HIGH ON VITAMIN D, YO.
We arrived at Tali's house and headed out to Bradford, which is the home of the UK Media Museum and is crucially doing an exhibit about Doctor Who fans. It was smaller than I was expecting, but rather sweet! Lots of memorobilia and personal memories. Unfortunately, exhaustion from the drive hit me all at once so I ended up sitting down with tea and a flapjack whilst other people did fun stuff, but such is life. It was a cracking flapjack, though!
We headed back to Tali's house wheere we were shortly greeted by Iona, and settled down to the now-traditional Articulate, pizza and wine. It is a good tradition and I hope it stays the same forever. I met Jo for the first time and we ended up as a team. We won. Apparently we are long lost word twins!
So it was a lovely evening. It was a bit of a shame to be woken up by Tali the next morning who very regretfully told me that my licence number plates had been stolen from my car. Oh, joy and rapture. I muttered deeply unforgiving things about Yorkshire and phoned the police whilst Tali made me a truly epic cup of tea. The police were pretty good at turning up quickly, but there's not a lot they can do other than put a note on the places in the national database that it probably wasn't me who stole that petrol/ran over that person/etc. Deeply annoying. (Although lovely moment when I came back in from inspecting the car with the policeman when Iona came down and looked truly baffled.) I have to get new plates now, which is... annoying. Perfectly doable, but annoying and an expense. Plus, I'm a bit annoyed because:
a. I am technically not meant to drive without these plates which is a BLOODY STUPID law because hello, how was I meant to get home;
b. I have lived in Liverpool - famous for car theft. I now live in a dodgy-ish bit of East London. And this happens in YORKSHIRE?!
c. It made Tali sad and meant she couldn't have a cheeky nap after dropping Jo off early at the station
Ho hum. I had a really lovely evening beforehand though and I wouldn't swap that, so I can't complain too much. It does feel a little like 2014 is OUT TO GET ME though.
