There is a Henry Hoover in my front hall.

I have never wished for a digital camera so much as this moment so that you can all understand the sheer INSANITY of this. Why do we have a new hoover? Is it an enigmatic gift? Have the people who run self-catering worked out that our hoovers have all the sucking power of an asthmatic sheep?

Still, though, it brings puzzlement. I only nipped home to pick up my medieval history notes so I can, like, get some books out of the library. CAROLINGIAN RENAISSANCE HERE I COME. Or something like that. I am tremendously unprepared, I just realised. Oh well. I'll get it sorted before long. Through sheer confusion.

Last night, I stayed in and watched The Prince And I with Sarah and Derya. This all made sense at the time. The film was, to be blunt, a bit rubbish. The odd moment made me go misty-eyed, but really, I don't think the film knew what it wanted to be. Romcom? Ironic look at the Danish monarchy? Feminist? Love-Conquers-All? Very confused. I spent two hours of my life and I have no idea, other than a clear picture that the dress looked crap.

Right. To the library!

That is quite the insult!

I wussed out on the Carolingian Renaissance and dithered over Charlemagne instead... will that do?

Yes, that is better. She looked down her nose at anything that wasn't English and she couldn't go and visit a castle for.

But the Carolingian Renaissance was, y'know, Carolingian, and happened because Charlemagne made it happen and it only really took place in Western Francia...

Silly girl. English history is dull at times, but the Europeans are great!

Not me. In one of those weird housethings, I have more or less taken responsibility for cleaning the upstairs communal areas. One look at our lounge tells you how badly this plan has failed.

DON'T STOP LOVING ME! *clings* I promise not to geek out about history anymore. I felt I should probably start, given that this is my degree course And All.

I'll think about it. And don't touch what you can't afford.
